Tomatoes and Tomatoes

Summer heat means tomatoes.

I don't think it will be as good a crop as last year.  Fruit size is smaller.  I was again very lazy and didn't make the effort to support them properly.  The plants are flopped everywhere and its difficult to reach the fruit, so I need to do better next year.  I gave myself a pass because of the veggie garden redesign.  But next year, I must do better.

I did manage to plant some basil, though.

While I'm in the kitchen, here's my French enamel cookware.  I bought a couple different pieces of this stuff long ago when I was first on my own.  At that time I had no idea what the plant on the pots was.  Finally I ended up growing a Brugmansia.  How odd--did it have something to do with the cookware?  I wish I knew what brand this was, and how to get some more pieces.  It's gorgeous stuff, and I've never seen it since.

In puppy news, I've been puzzled as to why Boris was getting a bald spot behind his right ear.  Then I saw Natasha was chewing all the hair off in that area.  Mystery solved.

Boris chews antler, Natasha chews Boris.

After all that tomato picking, a walk around.  With the Cercis trees gone there is much more of a sense of wide-open space out front.  I love the line of the wall with that half-circle shape, which was hidden when the trees were there.

  1. Wow that's a LOT of tomatoes! Happy canning :-) I've had like 2 tomatoes so far... and lots of blossom end rot on the rest because of the heat/drought here.

  2. And a bit of blossom end rot here, too, but I thought it was due to the cooler-than-normal weather! Yep, time to get out the kettle, jars, lids, etc...

  3. Oh, I absolutely love that wall in your yard!! I am so jealous of your view too. My tomatoes are at the perfect stage where I can eat one or two a day and I'm not overwhelmed yet. Your tomatoes are beautiful!

  4. Don't beat yourself up regarding your tomatoes, you have a fabulous crop. Its good to have a garden, but that view is to die for. Someone is watching, ah, I did eventually spot them.
