The kit lens could only get me so close.  Kit lens on Saliva 'Ultra Violet':

Several message boards said the macro 30mm was a good value.  Macro lens on Salvia 'Ultra Violet':

I didn't know the top "lip" of that salvia is all fuzzy-wuzzy: Photobucket

I tried the new lens briefly in the hot afternoon on the tiniest flowers I could find, then scurried back indoors, out of the sun.

I must learn to adjust the aperture setting to get the right effects.

I did not realize emerging Gaillardia flowers had bronzy edges on the sepals:

The macro lens makes the fig appear to be wearing a veil, like the veil on the hat of a 1940's noir fatale: Photobucket

More practice required.  I'll be working on it!

  1. My macro lens is the one that I use most these day, but focus gets trickier the closer you get. Macro lens plus cropping results in some amazing shots in the garden!

    1. Tiny flowers are easier, that's for sure. I need to try some roses and see how they turn out.

  4. It is amazing what you can see up close. Those first salvia shots might be considered vulgar, if I didn't know better.

    2. 100 mm macro lens with image stabilization, costs $900 for the lens. He probably uses a Canon. I've been eyeing a 105 mm macro for my Nikon which is in the same range.

  6. You are such a lucky girl having a macro. Your photo's are always beautiful and will be more beautiful by using your new lense. I wish you a lot of enjoyment with it. Is there also a better color with this lense? I have always problems getting the right colors of the flowers.
    Have a great evening Hoover.
