Agave 'Blue Glow' Bloom Update

I checked on the progress of this local 'Blue Glow'.  Mine is still preparing for bloom, probably slowed down by winter weather.  Apparently no bulbils.  Too bad!

There appear to be a few viable seed pods up at the top of the structure.  What plant those might produce will be interesting.  All 'Blue Glow', except the odd offset, are a tissue culture of one selected plant, are they not?

Beyond that blooming 'Blue Glow', a nice Aloe...ferox?

  1. Love the aloe flower is such a shame so few can be grown in the ground here. It is also seeing the agave blue glow flower, they are still so new here that you very rarely see anything other than tiny ones.

    1. Yes, if only they were a tiny bit more cold and moisture tolerant. Though climate change might give you your wish, which might be bad. :(

  2. A. ferox steals the scene for me, I'm afraid, especially backed by chartreuse. That scarlet/orange is absolutely lustworthy.

So are you going to toy with the law and try reproducing Blue Glow? (Not that I'd want you to reply on your blog if so!)

    1. I think seeds would be legal, since non-propagation due to patent restriction applies only to asexual (non seed) methods. If only I could get some of those seeds...or hopefully mine will produce a few--go bees, go!

    2. Yes that chartreuse in the background is a Cupressus macrocarpa selection of some sort, 'Goldcrest' maybe, a truly gorgeous plant. I should have taken a shot of that as well.

  3. My desmettiana (down in Texas) was about to bloom when a cold snap killed the buds. : ( I'm hopeful that the four offsets will make it through the winter, though.

On a brighter note, when I shopped for a blue glow recently, there was one with two plants, so I chose that one. Pretty excited to get two blue glows for the price of one.

    1. Sorry to hear your desmettiana got frosted. Throwing an old bed sheet over the offsets for the night might help.

Great buy on the two-for-one 'Blue Glow'! Good shopping!
