All The Roses (Part 6) "L" - "M"

'Lady Emma Hamilton'.  Fragrant, shrubby, beautiful foliage, nasty (though small) prickles, good rebloom and Rust resistance.
Photobucket

'Laguna'.  Not a good rebloomer, and it's huge.  Nasty (and large) prickles.  Prone to anthracnose here.  It does put on one heck of a spring show.
Rosa 'Laguna'

'Lichfield Angel'.  Superior Rust resistance, but stingy on bloom.  So-so
Rosa 'Lichfield Angel'

'Lions Fairy Tale'.  See 'Lichfield Angel'.
Lion's Rose

'Louise Clements'.  Wonderful, but it's been in decline for a long time and I can't figure out why.  Too bad.
Louise Clements

'Lunar Mist'.  Nice smaller climber with steady rebloom.  No complaints!  This is a yellow sport of 'Colette', and I'd like 'Colette' as well.
Photobucket

'Marie Daly'.  Outstanding.  Tiny flowers with a big, sweet fragrance.
Photobucket

'Marilyn Monroe'.  Terrible plant (though vigorous) with, as you see, flowers of perfection.  Horrific Rust.  Prickles that can kill.
Photobucket

'Matilda'.  Truly continuous blooming, but horrific Rust.

Another shot of 'Matilda':

'Medallion'.  Huge billowy flowers, like 'Just Joey' but more yellow.  It's difficult to find a healthy specimen.  Skip it unless you get it virus-indexed.
Rosa 'Medallion'

'Mrs. B. R. Cant'.  Old garden Tea rose, gets huge, will charm the pants off you.
Photobucket

'Molineux'.  All around outstanding, except it smells like dirty gym socks.  Get it, just don't sniff it.

Photobucket

'Moon Dance'.  My specimen is simply not healthy.  I've seen far better copies thriving in other gardens.  Rusts.
Rosa 'Moon Dance'

'Moonstone'.  Big, strong, vigorous, no fragrance, terrible rust, split centers.
Rosa 'Moonstone'

'Munstead Wood'.  The sole flower it's produced:

  1. So many more beautiful roses, I have some favourites here too. The bees must think your garden is Paradise...it is I think.

    1. Thanks! I love the bees. They never bother me even when I'm working around them. I'm happy they are getting food and drink here.

  2. Are you planning on removing the worst ones (any you labeled as "horrible" for instance)? I wonder why you'd put up with them.

    1. Well, would say I'm patient, but more honestly, they have monster root systems and are hard to remove, and I want my money's worth out of them, horrible or not. Gardener's logic!

  3. Oh my goodness, your roses are incredible beautiful. If one person deserves the word Rosarian it is you! I especially love 'Lady Emma Hamilton', 'Laguna', 'Mrs. B. R. Cant' and the one with no name. Can you reveal it, please? It is the photo above 'Medallion'.
I grow 'Moonstone' as well and it is the most "rusty rose" in my no spray organic garden :-(. It is an own root plant, not vigorous, with of course, the loveliest blooms you can think of. He still may have to go, because I think I just can stand the rust any longer.

    1. That's a 2nd shot of 'Matilda'. I added the name, thanks for pointing out the lack. I'm watching 'Moonstone' with the shovel as well in favor of the fragrant ADR winner 'Francis Meilland'. The Rust really gets to a person after a while, doesn't it? My own-root 'Moonstone' is very vigorous, though.

    2. Oh, I didn't get that it is the same rose like on the photo above. Thanks for letting me know about 'Matilda'! I am eying 'Francis Meilland' as well, he could be a winner, but I won't buy any more roses, before I planted the ones from my pot ghetto into the ground.

  4. Healthy or not I really like the form of Moon Dance--sort of a softer take on the really angular modern hybrid tea profile. I can just imagine the aromas of a warm spring evening in your garden!

    1. Yes, 'Moon Dance' has beautiful form. There are many modern roses available now with an older form--and antiques are still out there as well. So much to choose from. The rose scents are wonderful, but you can't top Lavender for fragrance. Yum!

  5. 'Marilyn Monroe' and 'Mrs. B. R. Cant' - the epitome of new and old roses. Love them both! I have made a presentation of my own rose collection, they all fitted into one post since I only had 11 roses, but I got so inspired by your presentation! I am going to try to squeeze in one or two more roses this year, not sure where yet!
