All The Roses (Part 7) "O" & "P"

'Old Port':  very nice rose, if you can find it.
Rosa 'Old Port'

'Peace':  If you can find a truly healthy specimen, it's worth the trouble.
Rosa 'Peace'

'Perdita':  excellent Rust resistance, good repeat, stays compact.  An under rated older Austin despite little fragrance.

'Petal Pusher':   a purported "groundcover" rose by the now defunct J&P, no fragrance, but very clean foliage.

'Peter Mayle':  big plant, big flower, big fragrance!

'Pink Gruss an Aachen' aka 'Irene Watts':  one of my very favorites.  Flawless here.

Flawless!  Have you noticed any previous roses in all these posts I've called "flawless"?  This is it.
Photobucket

'Pope John Paul II':  beautiful, fragrant, weak stems for me--I think it's not getting enough direct sun.
Photobucket

'Precious Dream':  small, prickly Ralph Moore rose.  Likes heat.
Photobucket

'Prospero':  slow to get going but worth the wait.  Does not recover easily from pruning.
Photobucket

'Pure Poetry':  all around good performer, but not much fragrance.
Photobucket

'Purple Splash':  good so far.  This year (its third) is "leap" year, so we'll see if it leaps or not.

  2. I have been enjoying your posts a lot, Hoov! My Old Port is tiny and not growing much, how old is yours? I am very tempted to start a rose list too :)

    1. Masha it took 7 years for my 'Old Port' to get waist high. Just a few perfect flowers a year. Sigh. Looking forward to your list!

  3. Still paying attention, so many lovely roses :-)
'Peter Mayle' looks very interesting but it is another one of those that isn't for sale in Britain. Glad to see you have 'Peace', I was sad to see mine go last year but it really was too old to keep, I have no idea exactly how old mine was, but I would guess it was more than 30 years. Wouldn't mind having it again.

  4. Hoover Boo, you truly have wonderful roses! I am so enjoying your roses A - Z posts ! Of course, even though all are beautiful I have a few favorites, again. 'Peace' is just outstanding in your garden, no surprise that this rose became world famous. I also like 'Peter Mayle' quite a bit, I guess I am into the big flowered Hts today! 'Prospero' is lovely and to me that also seems to be an underrated rose. 'Purple Splash' has really something going for it. I would love to see a whole bush shot of that one. Hope it will leap for you this year. Thanks for taking the time and sharing your beautiful roses here on your blog! Oh, I almost forgot, I am growing 'Pope John Paul II' as well. It is one of my favorite roses and the best white HT that I know of. I have him growing own-root in almost full sun and he is vigorous, but manageable, no weak stems. He flushes at least four times a year and the flowers are always flawless. It is simply a great rose in my opinion!

  5. I have 2 Pink Gruss an Aachen on order for the spring. So excited for them. Can I expect much bloom for the first year here in the midwest?
