No, not those:
The new crop of Valencia oranges turn orange in winter, but won't be ripe for months yet.
These are the harvest:
Agave americana medio-picta alba 'Aurea' is the long name for a smaller, less aggressively spreading version of Agave americana. The offsets were quite easy to remove. I replanted the largest and most symmetrical in a blue bowl. The others must sit out in the cold for a while. Too much else to do.
January means frantic work in the California garden. Many, many roses to prune:
In between roses, I note the Arctotis foliage which looked so beautiful all summer is declining and yellowing just as the plant begins to bloom. Why can't they both look good at the same time?
No time for looking through plant catalogs in January. Well, except at night.

Wow -- what a bloom! Great photo!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alan. Arctotis is a great plant, unfortunately not cold-hardy, only to about 20F.
DeleteYour 'Aurea' is beautiful! Is it difficult to separate the babies from the parent Agave?
ReplyDeleteIt was not difficult to get those offsets. I think it depends on the species. Desmettiana was horrible--could not get any of them. They stayed tucked under the parent like baby chicks under a hen. The medio-picta alba in contrast spreads out away from the parent, much easier.
DeleteBeautiful little offsets and the Arctotis bud and bloom are spectacular.
