Sprekelia formosissima Begins The Summer

From rocky highland areas of central Mexico, an effortless bulb here, with multiple rounds of bloom in warm weather if it likes loves its location.  Swift drainage a must;  bone-dry during winter dormancy preferred.

  1. Beautiful that Sprekelia, I had it once in my greenhouse, but since we do not heat it anymore, the Sprekelia has gone.

    1. Yes it's not very cold hardy. Do Hippeastrum survive in your unheated greenhouse?

  2. Very elegant. Beautiful color and form. So how do you keep it bone dry in the winter?

    1. It's in a raised bed in sandy-silty soil--that seems to be good enough. With a measly 5" of rain this winter, dry wasn't difficult. :(

  3. What an amazing red. Sadly, not a plant for our wet, wet winters here. Happy Summer, Hoov!
