Mrs. Hummer's progeny are still around. One of them perches on the feeder, between nectar sips stretching and looking around. The other wiggles as it drinks. Stretch and Wiggle.
Occasionally Mrs. or Mr. Hummer will chase them off ,but just as often they are all on the feeder, sipping together.
Sweet! Wish we had hummingbirds here...
ReplyDeleteThey eat lots of mosquitoes and small flies. They are good to have around for more than just entertainment.
DeleteAlthough my feeder has 4 ports, only one usually gets used at a time as the feisty little beasts expend more energy than they get from the feeder fluid chasing one another. However, on very rare occasions, I've seen 2 and even 3 at the feeder at once and always wondered if they were family members. I'm glad that the sibs in your garden, at least, are compatible.
ReplyDeleteWell, sort of compatible. They argue a lot. Dawn and dusk, though, everyone cooperates because everyone is hungry.
DeleteOhh, they´ve grown so much!! so cute :)
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty much expert fliers now, too.
DeleteThanks dear Hoover, it is lovely to see how much the little chicks have grown. I am so pleased that they are staying in your garden, they know they will be well cared for.

Hats off to your photography skills! I have never managed to capture one of those zippy little creatures in focus. Nice shots!
ReplyDeleteYour hummers like to gather for family time around the dinner table. Ours chase away all comers to have it all to themselves...maybe they could use a good shrink.
ReplyDeleteI had quit putting out the feeder for a long time because one male would guard it as his exclusively--didn't seem right--so I worked to add a lot of nectar plants instead. Seeing all the birds on the feeder yesterday, six(!) at once without fighting, was a surprise. Mr. Hummer has returned to mostly guarding "his" Salvia discolor.
