June Gloom Busy

Gomphrenea 'Fireworks' above
June Gloom has returned, though we know it will soon be gone.  So garden activity is frantic.  So blogging is neglected.  A few flowers for Friday.

April brings the first magnificent flush of roses.  Then they are done, but in May Hemerocallis takes up the banner of Spring.  Then in June the roses rebloom, along with a continuing show from the Hemerocallis.  The Shasta daisies and other plants are blooming, too.  With June Gloom strong, so are colors, though photography yields flatness in the deliciously heavy overcast.

 'Bolero' (2004)
 'Firefighter'
'Firefighter' is not only fragrant, it's prolific.  That's Dahlia 'Arabian Night' near the bottom of the photo, and Iochroma 'Purple Queen' near the top.
 'Twilight Zone'
Unknown rose with pink Pentas and Fuchsia
'Love and Wishes' with Hemerocallis 'Gold District' in the background.

 'Barcelona'
Now back to work in the cool overcast.  Have a great weekend!  I hope you are able to get out and garden.

    1. I already have, just taking a break before heading back outside. Soon enough I'll be sitting in the house, grousing about the heat.

The Gomphrena is really cool; first time I've grown it.

  2. Roses are gorgeous, nice deep vibrant colors. I wish there was another name for this type of weather. The Weather of Gardeners' Delight. June Bloom. June Swoon.

    1. It started out as a florist rose, so yes it is an excellent cut flower, and a rare one, being extremely fragrant.

  4. All your Friday flowers are breathtakingly beautiful even under dull skies. That red rose/purple Iochroma combination couldn't be more perfect. Even though the sun didn't break through here until after 5pm yesterday, I'm hoping that the June gloom persists another month.

    1. Looks like it is starting to weaken--next week looks sunnier, so let's revel (and garden) in it while we can!

  6. Your garden looks wonderful! That Gomphrena is too cool - never seen it before, and love its little yellow stars. As for playing catch-up, I hope to get at least a little time out there this weekend. I hope to tear into the hell strip - wish me luck!

    1. Thanks! Much more comfortable sunshine than the real thing, though the plants like the hot stuff.
