Office Building Anigozanthos
Beloved saw these on a lunchtime walk, and kindly phone-toe-graphed them for me. Amazing what overwatering and otherwise ignoring them can do. Good information on growing Anigozanthos here, information which I plan to exploit, to see if I can duplicate the results seen above.

It looks great as a huge clump like that!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great? You can spot it from two blocks away.
DeleteMine aren't nearly that floriferous but I was happy just to see the flower stalks return this year. Thanks for the link - I've saved it for reference.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how much they water them. Obviously considerable reflected heat...
DeleteMust be pretty "meh" out of bloom, though. The rest of the building had the usual office-park plants, lawn, agapanthus, and raphiolepis buzzed into rectangles.
My tall varieties aren't sizing up -- lack of water during winter. I see them used in fantastic massed plantings in commercial settings everywhere that look almost neglected, but the secret must be the means for steady irrigation the contractors laid down. I wonder if they know to taper off after bloom?
ReplyDeleteCan't imagine an office park mow-blow crew adjusting irrigation.
DeleteTrying to figure out how to place them so the flowers show but the plants don't. They are the orchids of Australia--the flowers thrilling, the plants not worth looking at.
Hot damn, look at that ! There ia a house I drive by on my way to the grocery store that has a huge stand of red A.s I should take my camera.
ReplyDeleteTake the camera, lady! Let's see the glory!
DeleteImpressive! The second image with the building and blue sky is especially nice.
ReplyDeleteTakes a PNW-er to notice a blue sky!
DeleteWow! What a statement! Love it! :)
ReplyDeleteA very adamant statement!
DeleteGreat photos,Anizoganthos look wonderful planted en-masse, they look especially lovely here planted in front of this modern, neutral coloured building and what a beautiful blue sky.

It is a beautiful blue sky. I admit I don't appreciate that as much as I should.
