The Huntington in Early July 2016

Above, Bouteloua gracilis and Muhlenbergia rigens grasses

We visited the Huntington Sunday for the CSS show and the summer blooming Lotus.

This area was the temporary entrance while the new entrance buildings were being constructed--there were trailers hosting the ticket booths and gift shop.  That's all gone now.  They began to plant this area last year and it is now fairly complete and growing with clumping grasses, Acacia, yarrow, Anigozanthos.
We headed to the Chinese garden to see the Lotus.
Oooh!  Not disappointed!

A quick trip through the rose garden...
and the subtropical walk past this Erygnium from Argentina...
 ...and past the new Cycads...
...to enjoy the Desert Garden for a few minutes.

Then back past grasses and Cycads to the Botanical Center for the CSS show.  But the show is for another post.

  1. So interesting, so beautiful the first photo of the blooming Lotus. I have seen already so many lovely pictures on blogs of Huntington that I think it´s a must to visit when I ever will be in the US.

    1. The trees have grown so fast. It was much different when the trees were only a few feet tall (much hotter!).

  6. Ohh, that shot of the deep magenta-pink water lilies and the fractured reflections of the lotuses above... Magnificent. Thanks so much for getting up early to share this beauty with the rest of the world.
