Portland International Test Rose Garden August 2016

Whirlwind trip to Portland, there and back again.  We were only able to visit the Peninsula Rose Garden in North Portland and the International Test Rose Garden in Washington Park with a cell phone camera.  Still, it was fabulous.  None of the photos do justice--the roses were glorious.
White 'Moondance'

The Peninsula Park rose garden was lovely, but the International was spectacular.
Peninsula Park was financed via bond issue in 1908.  Over one hundred years later, it remains a public treasure.
At International Test, our visit began with weather overcast and showery, but then the sun emerged.
I wasn't expecting this kind of show in August.
'Julia Child' in the background, 'Cinco de Mayo' in the foreground.

 Iceberg!
I think this is 'Memorial Day'.  It had an excellent fragrance.
Many of the roses were new introductions.  There were a few old favorites ('Peace') and some unnamed--with only code numbers.

One of my companions remarked, "You should see the smile on your face."

  3. I can imagine that smile on your face! Glad you found something suitable to do while here. And still bummed that I was busy and couldn't kidnap you for garden viewing adventures.

    1. It was a whirlwind, and since I seem to live more at plant-speed than at 21st century human-speed, too whirlwind. Sorry to have missed you, but we hope to get back there for a more sedate visit, and then the plant-yakking can commence! :)

  4. When I saw the title of your post, I thought "Hoover Boo is in her element!" I'm glad you got the opportunity, whirlwind though it may have been. I can't get over how great the roses there look in mid-summer.
