Wednesday Vignette

Blue foliage, but the late afternoon sun melding with new growth creates a golden corona on Eucalyptus 'Moon Lagoon'.

  1. Proof of the importance of siting! You and Denise have me convinced I "need" this Eucalyptus but the challenge is to find the right spot.

    1. Getting certain plants lit at certain times of the day can make a big impact, no?

The plant wants plenty of sun, the plant-lover wants back-lit in the morning or back-lit in the afternoon.

    2. Pittosporum sparkle in the morning, 'Moon Lagoon' and Phylica glow in the afternoon.

    3. Bring out your inner rebel, and plant it where your tree-hating neighbor can enjoy it. (Oh no - I've been in Oregon for too long - I'm becoming passive-aggressive! Yikes!)

    1. About 10'x10'. It forms a lignotuber, so can be cut to the ground periodically and resprout afresh. This is a survival adaptation for a native environment of frequent wildfires. Some California natives do the same thing. The mature foliage is not as pretty, so cutting back regularly for new juvenile growth is the plan. More than you wanted to know? ;^)

    2. Not at all! These are the answers to my exact questions. Is the mature foliage less silvery (i.e. greener)?

    3. I do not know. I don't have any mature foliage yet.

    1. My my my my corona... (Your line above made me think of that old song by the Knack. Love the glow - so pretty!)

    1. Saw a couple fine healthy ones for sale when I got the Leucophyllum. San Marcos was the wholesaler, it was at Village...can your local Village have them transferred up from the Orange location?

    2. Or Native Sons was the wholesaler. I get those two mixed up.
