Above:  I didn't drop a bag of perlite

On Monday not only did it rain, it also hailed.  We are at 14"+ (355 mm) of rain for the season (October 1-Sept 30).   This is 1"  (25 mm) over our historic average for an entire rainy season.

A little icing on the rain.

  1. Hey! Your hail was bigger than my hail! Doesn't it make a great sound?

    1. Hail envy! ;) It was loud here--we have an aluminum pergola over the balcony and it was ringing like a bell.

Unfortunately many succulents are extensively pockmarked. I thought they would escape because the hail was mixed with rain. Well, they will grow out of it. And can grow because of all the rain!

  4. Hail! It was cold here but not that cold! According to our (re-calibrated) rain accounting, our season-to-date total is a miraculous 16 inches. I hope my succulents don't rot.

    1. I was surprised how long it took the little piles of ice to melt. Several hours.

Yes we have exceeded our historic seasonal average. Tomorrow's drought map tomorrow should look different!

  5. Oh no...hail and succulents are not a great combination.

    1. Not yet! Soil is nicely moist, but not soggy. Yet.

  7. Wow - your plants must not know what hit them! It must feel like a spa visit for them - luxurious abundance! The stack of clay pots with a doll's head on top made me laugh! :D

    1. New growth everywhere, and weeds! Haven't had weeds for five years. Haven't missed them, either.

Found that doll's head in the gutter on a dog walk. It reminded me of those ceramic baby statues several gardens had on the Portland Fling.

  8. Wow. Hail is impressive to watch but I hate what it does to succulent leaves.

Happy to hear about your rainfall totals.

    1. Umm, yeah, some leaves were uh...affected. But the rain has been miraculous.
