Rehab Progress And The Diva 'Evelyn'

I redid the flagstones, setting them into the slope so that they are level and flat like stairs. Much better visually, as well as to walk and stand on. My sense of what would be right was able to overcome my usual impatience. I hope that happens more often.

I transplanted some Dymondia from the back and a couple of baby Santolina from the front. We've had a couple of days of visits from our dear darling Catalina Eddy, who brings with his counterclockwise rotation a heavy overcast and cool weather, perfect for transplanting anything.

I dug a couple of holes in preparation for planting. There is room for three modest shrub-sized plants, plus a few little things like dwarf lavenders, maybe some Germander, Iris, a Geranium 'Rozanne' or two, and the Dymondia. I tried out 'Cousin Itt'...what do you think? That lovely green texture raining down the slope...I have another plant in mind, though. I'll try that one as well and see what looks best. Hopefully the next post on this area will be the last, completed view.

The digging was good for me. I was getting fairly delirious over spring on Sunday and digging brought me down to earth. Nothing like aching knees and wrists and neck and back to tone down the delirium. Then I saw this:

...but most especially this, The Diva 'Evelyn':

...and it was Springtime delirium all over again.

  1. Loved your previous post on the succulent/agave landscape. As to this post, that first photo...wowser, you're definitely on to something. I love it with the grass gone -- looks so timeless mediterranean. And that Evelyn is one dishy diva. (I planted a flat of dymondia myself yesterday in the hellstrip and have the blisters to prove it.)

  2. I think that 'Cousin Itt' would look good anywhere! Nice work on the flagstones, and I felt like it could have been me doing and then redoing the project with that same sense of need to get it done vs. taking the time to do it right. As for the spring delirium we've had 3 sunny days in a row...I'm pretty much delirious myself!

Thank you Danger, nice to know I am not the only one with some impatience in the garden. Enjoy your sunshine!

Thank you Denise, any blog photos forthcoming of that hellstrip? Would like to see it.
