2011

It's late to look back on 2011 when 2012 is already going strong, but it's my blog, so I can do what I want to.

There was a sepia Autumn:

and a sapphire spring.

I loved this hellstrip,

and Agave patterns.

My taste in flowers expanded

while still adoring old favorites:

Foliage, too.  I guess it doesn't have to be variegated.

I finally organized my clutter of pots onto shelves.  ("Before")

The koi pond redo of October 2010 made koi keeping in 2011 a lot easier.

This sure was a popular post.

The neighbors cut down their once-gorgeous bougainvillea because it pulled their phone line out and the phone company wouldn't fix it unless they trimmed everything away from the lines.

How can I not miss it, especially since I didn't have to take care of it?

It was another great tomato year

But I had some failures in 2011

And lost a most beloved friend to extreme old age.  My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song.

Thought hard and worked hard on water conservation

Pondered other people's gardens:

Went to some plant shows:

Tried really hard to improve my photography skills

What an incredibly fortunate person I am to have had that year.  I'm glad I looked back.  No grand trips, no exciting events, no great achievements.   Just the luxury of an every day mundane, uneventful little life, accentuated and made beautiful by plants.  Wonderful, glorious, amazing, astounding, transfixing plants!

  1. What a fabulous collection of plant images and memories from last year, some good and some sad but an interesting and beautiful year in plant colours and textures.

  2. I have to improve my own photography skills and use a real camera instead of my cell-phone camera...and I would really love to grow a Geraldton Wax tree like the one you have growing so beautifully in your garden and have it survive.
    Happy gardening my friend!

  7. What a great post! Perfect timing. Thanks for doing it. I haven't done mine yet either. Will July be too late?

  8. Sherry why not July? Inside where it's cool, out of the blistering heat of July--makes sense for Florida! :)

  10. What a wonderful gardening year you have had. I don't think you have to work on your photographic skills too hard: your photos are just lovely. I especially love the colour contrasts of your Sapphire Spring and the image of the roses tumbling over the steps.
