Bloom Day February

Thanks to May Dreams Gardens for hosting this delightful blogger's meme.

The new puppies are taking up all my time just now, so just two flowers for this Bloom Day.  Though there are many more, these must suffice.  I've washed the floor more today than I have in the past year...such innocent little faces.

Kalanchoe luciae bloom.  Kalanchoe luciae is native to South Africa.

I have read the seeds are quite easy to germinate, and I plan to try to get some seed-grown plants.  The flowers are heavy with nectar:  a hummingbird has been hitting them several times a day for the past week.

This other flower is an unidentified South African bulb Androcymbidium pulchrum, seen Saturday at the UCI Arboretum.  Update 11:46 pm :  It's Androcymbium pulchrum.  I thought I remembered it from last year's visit, and I saved the name.  A striking burgundy flower that snails were racing to devour.  I picked a couple of snails and tossed them on the asphalt.  No sympathy.

The nearby tag said Galiaxia, but it doesn't look like a Galiaxia at all.  So unknown.

And then the little hellions.  Don't let those sweetly innocent faces fool you!

  6. Your unknown flower is just gorgeous! Too bad you don't know its name - isn't that infuriating?! (You may not feel that way, but it is so frustrating to me to not know a plant's name!) Cute little innocent babes! They don't look like they could ever do anything wrong! ;)

  7. Lovely blooms, but the puppies--they steal the show on this bloom day! Our Chloe is a mix of Samoyed/Husky (we think), and she looked so much like your babies when we rescued her. She does have blue eyes, though. (And I had to laugh--there's nothing like new puppies to keep the floor mopped on a daily basis!) Enjoy your cuties!
    Cheers!
