Bee Good

Enjoying Aloe 'Cynthia Gitty':

Our light drizzle continues here.  We've gotten .25" inches (6 mm) of rain, but it's taken 3 days to get it.  I made a rain shelter for Aloe thraskii, which is purported to be highly prone to rot in rainy winter weather in Southern California if the crown of the plant is not kept dry.  Putting up the shelter, I snapped off part of a thraskii leaf.  Grrrr!

"Winter" means rain and Camellia flowers.

This drizzly storm is wet but not wintery--it's 70F (21C) here in the house, no heat required, and it's not much cooler outside.

On our walk this morning it was damp, but the air smelled wonderfully clean, of conifers and sage.

A day to be at peace, to enjoy simple pleasures, to be happy as a bee in an Aloe.

  1. Beautiful garden images Hoover, the camellia is spectacular. I love the fragrance of conifers.
I almost died in the heat yesteday it was unbearable, we had a few big spots of rain which lasted about 10 minutes, increasing the humidity.
21degrees C sounds wonderful, I would appreciate that right now. :)

    1. Thanks Dianne, I hope your weather improves. I hate hot weather!

  2. Very nice macro shots, but I'm a sucker for bee close-ups.

A quarter inch over three days doesn't even seem worth measuring. :-)

    1. A quarter inch is worth it here!

Are not bees amazing. They do stuff with their antennae while they are gathering nectar and pollen--would have never known that without a macro lens.
