Shouldn't Have Bought It. Don't Know Where To Put It. Sure Is Pretty.

 Whoa!  Where's the Dramamine?

I should have skipped Cordyline 'Electric Flash', but it sure is pretty.  The leaves have chartreuse margins that fade to pale yellow to ivory.  The rest of the leaves have brown and pink stripes.
I walked around the garden looking for 'Electric Flash' companions.  I became distracted and thought of other things.  I note that after several tries this driveway-side planter looks right.  Fifteen years ago I started with tall hybrid tea roses.  That didn't work.  I tried short, shrubby Austin roses.  That didn't work either.  Agaves work.

At the end of the driveway,  Aloe pseudorubroviolacea flowers have opened.  The trio of the blooming Aloe, Aloe thraskii behind it, and Maireana sedifolia have grown large enough to dominate this area.  The area began as a lawn, became a path with roses and daylilys, and is now more xeric--Aloes, Salvias, Leucadendron, Kalanchoe, Aeonium.  A couple of roses still to move elsewhere.
 Cool.
I trimmed the Myrtle a few weeks ago.  Myrtle has the great virtue of sprouting new growth from bare wood.
How does 'Electric Flash' look with Leucadendron 'Pisa'?
Umm...not sure.  Around to the veggie garden.  The sweet peas are finally blooming with some enthusiasm.

This is 'North Shore' which I planted from a package of seeds we bought on our visit to Cambria last October.
No companions for 'Electric Flash' there.  Moving along. Nice, but nothing Cordyline-agreeable here, either
'Munstead Wood' is looking better and better.
Better go out front and check the Dasylirion.  A few more weeks for the flowers to open.  We have a day or two of grey skies ahead--it's a wonderful respite from the baking sun.
Several of the 'Blue Glow' are at a mature size now.  I planted most of them from 4" pots.
Oh, crap.  I just bought that Dudleya.  Kaput.
Back to the Driveway.  Graptoveria 'Fred Ives' is the opposite of kaput.
How would 'Electric Flash' pair up?
The Graptoveria flowers look as if they are sprouting from 'Electric Flash'--interesting, but the foliage doesn't make the same match.
Oh, there...
The pink stripes in 'Electric Flash' match the pinky-brown in Echeveria 'Arlie Wright'.  I'd have to move the Echeveria and find space for both it and the Cordyline alongside.  Maybe in a pot?  Oh, dear.  Shouldn't have bought it.  Don't know where to put it.  Sure is pretty.

  1. I think the "Electric Flash" is dazzling, I would love one myself, it would look good with the Graptoveria or planted nearby, the colours are compatible.

  2. Don't know where to put it . Trying to shake off that issue this year. 80-20 result.

    1. Is the 80 the planned part or the don't-know-where part? ;^)

  4. I suffer from that same affliction - all too frequently. When a plant takes my fancy, I can imagine any number of possible placements standing in the garden center but color in my mind's eye and color in reality seem to be very different. Maybe I'd do better if I took off my rose-colored glasses. I like your Cordyline very much and would've been tempted too.

  5. Shouldn't have bought it. Don't know where to put it. Sure is pretty. is the title of the song that begins each meeting of plantaholics anonymous. 'Electric Flash' is gorgeous and looks incredible with 'Arlie Wright!'

  6. Pretty plant, well worth buying and gave you another opportunity to examine the garden again. Impulse purchases are the best....sometimes :)

    1. I must have some non-impulse purchases out in the garden somewhere. I'll have to do a post on that. It will be extremely short.

  7. It's really beautiful! Since when has "don't know where to put it" ever been a reason to not buy a fantastic plant? I know I never use that reasoning. :)

    1. Considering the number of plants I still have in pots, I don't use that reasoning much myself.

  10. Beautiful images of your beautiful garden...and I think you found the perfect place there at the end. Maybe a shoe-horn will work?

    1. A shoe-horn would help, but I need design talent more.

  12. I think Fred Ives, Electric Flash and the Arlie Wright ech all belong together. Before I gave it to a neighbor, I don't recall my FI ever blooming like that!

  16. The agaves along the driveway are beautiful. I see them everywhere here in Las Vegas, but never is such a classy way. I love how you have them. They look fantastic.
