Bloom Day November 2016

Above:  'Rouge Royale'
All summer, the roses were devastated by Chili Thrips.  I wondered if I'd ever see a rose again.  They've managed to recover somewhat, so I celebrate them this bloom day.
'Geranium Red':
I love Agaves, but try sniffing one.  Fragrance is an integral part of the garden.  Lavender, myrtle, basil, Salvia clevelandii--all wonderful scents, but roses--roses rule.
'Old Port':
'Firefighter', in memory of those firefighters who died on 9/11:
'Jubilee Celebration':
'William Shakespeare 2000':
'Bolero':
'Comtesse de Provence':
'Altissimo':
'Brass Band':
'Matilda':
'Yves Piaget':
'Snowbird':
'The Ambridge Rose':

  1. Love your rose blooms - you make them look so good I almost want to grow them, too ;-) What is that little fircracker-like bloomer around 'Bolero'?

    1. Only "almost"? There's a rose for every climate.

That is Gomphrena 'Fireworks', aptly named. :)

  2. What a great photo you got of 'Altissimo". I'm partial to the single roses but your many-petaled specimens are mighty tempting. And, YES, the fragrance, if nothing else.

  3. I know you've cut way down on roses the last few years, but it still amazes me how many you have -- and how wonderful they always look! (at least one bloom from each plant I guess... :)

    1. Oh, you should have seen what the Chili Thrips did. The horror! The horror!

  4. They're all absolutely lovely, Hoover Boo! I'm glad you were able to rein in the chili thrips. My own roses, which are relatively few in number, are looking awful on a protracted low-water diet but that didn't stop me from buying an Austin rose, which I hope I pamper in an extra-large pot. I'm hoping we get the rain forecast for Sunday/Monday!

    1. The colder nights apparently reined in the CTs (or I hope they are reined in). Nothing I did. Austin rose, ooooh! Which one did you get?

Rain forecast? I'll believe it when I see it. Sigh.

  5. I believe you are the only other person I know who owns 'Bolero'. I do so love it ! Happy Bloom Day.

    1. It's an outstanding rose, yes? The fragrance is wonderful, the rebloom is generous and rapid, growth habit compact...one of my best, at least before the chili thrips arrived.

      Happy Bloom Day!

  6. 'Comtesse de Provence' is particularly lovely. Ah roses! Mine are presently being mown down by the frost.

    1. Frost has some virtues--kills off certain insect pests!

'Comtesse' has an out-of-the-ordinary, fruity fragrance--most unexpected.
