The Color of Clean Foliage

It rained yet again over night:  another 0.4".  We've luxuriated in cool, rainy, overcast weather since mid-December, though yesterday was an exception--mostly sunny and 78F.   I got a photo of clean, clean foliage and yellow Aloe vanbalenii flowers glowing softly in late afternoon sun.  The colors of clean foliage, of blues and aquas and all the shades of green, none of it darkened with grime.

Indulge us please, those of you who have not gardened in five years of drought.  We're joyously delirious.

  1. Of course, we'll indulge you, as we wade through the muck. Warm rain in winter. My aloes and cordylines are at least ten feet tall. The aeoniums are a foot across with bright leaves. No dust. No kidding, though, it's the best present ever, isn't it?

    1. Best present ever! The situation reveals also that part of a "best present ever" is timing. :)

  2. I was hoping you were getting some of the wet goodness from the sky. We've reached our saturation point here in the Sacramento Valley--literally as puddles were forming on top of bare soil. Another 2 (!) inches forecast for tomorrow, then a longer period of drying out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed all my succulents will be able to handle all this rain.

    1. I'm a little concerned with some of the aloes and echeverias, have been shaking the puddles out of them. But the rain is wonderful.

  5. Like Gerhard I am casting an anxious glance at the succulents, though I moved several into the house and another batch into the garage. Lots of road closures and downed trees around these parts, and a close call with the river. How happy your shiny clean plants look ! If I wished for one weather thing it would be 1 inch of rain every year in early August.

    1. I saw there was some flooding up in your region, and thought of you. Hope the situation eases without damage. One inch of rain every August sounds great. We got that in summer of '15 with a tropical storm up from the south and it was indeed magic for the plants.
