Wednesday Vignette

The Yucca 'Bright Star' is blooming again.  Early September has become its time to flower.  I checked back to last year, when I posted a similar shot.  This year's photo was taken on a gloomy morning at 6am.  Last year's was taken later in the day.

I was pondering how the Yucca chose to bloom at almost the same time every year, when I realized I take a photo of it blooming from the same angle on almost the same date every year.  We have something in common, that Yucca and I.  The seasons have power over both of us.

Wednesday Vignettes are hosted by Flutter and Hum.

  1. The blooming Yucca, with the accompanying textures is balm for my heartbroken soul on this sad day. My Bright Star melted this past winter. I never got around to take it out, and now it's carefully poking up some tiny little leaves from the root. I have to admit, I was thrilled to see them!

    1. Have hope--it helps! If a 'Bright Star' can endure, other good things can, too.

  2. It's very pretty! None of the 3 of mine have ever bloomed. Maybe I need to go have a talk with them about the need to get with the schedule!

    1. No, you don't want them to bloom. They branch after blooming and lose their perfect symmetry.

  3. What a gorgeous arrangement in the garden, and wonderful photos, too! The seasons hold sway over us all, though it's interesting how differently each individual can be affected by a particular season.

    1. Isn't it? A neighbor loathes our annual "June Gloom" because it makes her feel gloomy and I adore it because it's perfect gardening weather.

  4. The yucca flowers are so pretty and attract huge moths and pollinator bats here but I have horrible memories of an accident I had when I was a child and tried to pick yucca flowers... I never wanted to have yuccas after that!

    1. Pollinator bats, how cool! I'm not 100% keen on Yuccas as they can get enormous and be impossible to get rid of, but 'Bright Star' is pretty well-behaved. So far, anyway. I can see how a bad encounter with a plant can create a long-term aversion...having been scratched by a cat once long ago, it took time for me to get past that.

  5. This is an excellent tradition, you two keep it up!

  6. Oooh, that's a swell sight! Yucca 'Margaritaville' bloomed in my garden this year after having been in place for over ten years. Of course I thought of you as the ones you sent me continue to put on growth each year.

    1. I think mine took quite a few years also. If not ten, than eight. They are tough, tough plants--even lots of pure rainwater won't kill them.

  7. I only noticed last year how beautiful each individual flower is on the long stalks of the Yuccas. Seeing this, I realize that my 'Bright Star needs a better supporting cast of characters.
