Wednesday Vignette October 11, 2017

On Monday this is the view of my neighbors packing up their cars to evacuate as the fire approached.  This is what was going on behind that ridge in the above photo.

See how palm trees ignite like matches?

Here is one of the DC-10 tankers pulling up after a drop,  as they put out the fire in the previous photos:
We are very grateful to the firefighters and the pilots who did such an outstanding job saving our neighborhood.  There are some bad people in our world these days, but there are some really good ones, too.

Wednesday Vignettes are hosted by Flutter and Hum.

Note:  The first and last photos are mine;  the ones in the middle are from the LA Times.

  1. All too scary. I heard the Canyon Fire 2 is now 50% contained and I hope that means there's no longer any significant risk to you. My sister-in-law up north just let me know that the fire threatening her home is now 30% contained and she's breathing easier (literally) but she still faces some risk if the winds whip up again.

    1. As far as we know what is left is way up by the 91/241, so we're still good. More hot dry weather this weekend, YIKES! Hope your sister-in-law's family (and everyone else there) are going to be okay. Dear Husband's niece and her family are in Napa. Cell phone and electricity are out there.

    2. The world has gone crazy. So glad you're fine. We can smell the smoke from the fires in Napa and Sonoma County.

    1. Thanks! Santa Rosa/Calistoga areas looking really bad. Hoping the fire fighters can get some control. It's very dangerous.

  5. I think maybe I'll do a little rain dance tonight for the West before I go to bed. And pray really, really hard for you all. North America is truly out of balance between devastating hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and fire.

    1. Some rain would really help! "Out of balance" is a good way to put it.

  6. Let's hear it for a return to "balance" in so many realms.
    Stay safe, my friend.

  7. I ache with you. We had a fire start on Wednesday, next to Camps Bay where we first lived. Flared up again and has devoured the ridge of mountain and creeping down the valleys. We have rain promised into Sunday and Monday.
Thinking of firefighters on both sites.

    1. I hope you get a good rain and that your firefighters have success and stay safe. It's such a difficult job.
