A Wednesday Vignette For June 13, 2018

Hand with daylily flower goo.  At this time of year, my favorite garden activity is walking around first thing in the morning popping off yesterday's Daylily flowers.  The flowers only last a day, so removal of yesterday's flowers makes the garden ready for a new day.  Early in the morning, the garden is magic.

  1. Magic indeed! I have to be very careful when I snap the heads off my 'Spanish Harlem" daylilies - the "goo" could easily be used as a dye and it doesn't come off skin or clothes at all easily.

    1. Goo--a small price to pay? 'Spanish Harlem' is a nice one!

  2. There is nothing at all that can compare with a summer dawn-time in the garden. I treasure every minute.

    1. We agree 100% on that one.

I would only add: Spring, Autumn, and Winter, too.

  3. Good morning Hoover Boo
To me this time of the day is also the most beautiful one. You have a beautiful vieuw.
    Have a wonderful day.

  4. Yes, I too love this time of year. Not too hot in the mornings and those cheerful blooms to greet each day is a delight.

    1. People who have a garden to play in are very fortunate people, don't you think?

  5. Love the glimpse of fuzzy bathrobe!
We're just getting into daylily season here, and I'm making the early-morning stroll earlier and earlier to discourage deer, who in the past few seasons have begun to sample the garden (after decades of avoiding it; pretty sure our temporary doglessness has something to do with it). The damage would be worse if not for all the other plants in the borders that are too prickly or pungent or fuzzy for their tastes.
By the way: haven't forgotten my promise to send some fans of the nicely fragrant lemon lily, one of the earliest Hem.'s; last year was so dry here that I wanted to give it a beefing-up season in a nursery bed. Much improved, and I'll dispatch it in October if your conditions allow. Surely *this* winter you'll get some real rain...

      Dogless? :^(

      Would love a lemony lily!
