It's January 14th, 2019 And It's Raining

One inch (25.4 mm) of rain on one half acre calculates to about 13,577 gallons (51,400 liters) of water, which is enough to generously water my entire garden ten times.   We may get two inches or more this week.  The irrigation can stay off for another month, at least.  Hooray!  We got about .4" (10 mm) last week.  We got about .6" the week before that, and about .75" yesterday.
Unfortunately, the tile guys can't use their electric tile saw in wet weather, (water + electricity = danger) so...the remodel has halted.
Idled.  Anti-hooray.
The Endless Shower Tiling is almost done, but not done.
Meanwhile, Aeonium 'Kiwi' is happy.

  1. We are expecting 2 to 3 inches over the next couple of days. We've gotten toughly 9 so far since Oct. I made a poly tent this weekend for some of my container succulents, they have had their fill ! Feb and March are usually pretty wet here so we shall see if we achieve the 25 inches or so that are normal.

    1. So far it has been a "historically average" sort of rainy season, a great treat and relief. The ridge that we have a view of is the greenest it has been since 2011. Hope you get your 25 inches, and that we get our 14.

    2. Those green slopes are such a delight to see (more so for you after yearS)

  2. I share your joy. So far today, 1.03 inches! And there are two more storms predicted.

Kiwi looks happy, too. Rain does so much more for plants than irrigation does.

    1. When it is like this I forget all about summer for a while. We got about .75". I wish I had a 10,000 gallon rain tank or two to fill.

      Rain. Is. Magic!

  3. Love seeing all those red umbrellas and raincoats downtown!

Sorry about the impact on the project, but ... rain!!

    Happy winter/spring.

  4. The Aeoniums are happy here too. Let's hope they stay that way with all the rain dropped on them at once this week. I'm sorry to hear that your project has been idled. Who'd have guessed that you'd experience a weather delay of all things? However, I have to say I'm glad our construction probably won't start until the rainy season is well behind us, especially as we'll be missing part of our roof for a time.

    1. I did not expect a rain delay, for sure. If not for the complications of the shower the tile would all be done by now. Oh, well. Patience, patience I keep telling myself. Almost there.

Yes, a roof is a nice thing to have when it rains. How many months is your project expected to take?

  5. I bet you can almost watch your succulents plump up in all this rain. Hooray. I also bet you can't wait until the bathroom project is completed. What a pain for it to drag on so long.

    1. I need to be more patient just a little longer. I think the builders are as intent on finishing as I am intent on them finishing. No more rain predicted come Friday, so they will be back then for sure.

  6. Ooh, what is the plant next to your Kiwi? I have one and it's been ID'd as Graptopetalum paraguayense E. Walther? So excited for all this rain!!! Continuing today...
