Alan from It's Not Work, It's Gardening asked about the roses. Here you go. All the roses.
'Abraham Darby' Gorgeous fragrant flowers, terrible Rust.
'Aimee Vibert'. Extremely slow to establish, otherwise superb.
'Altissimo'. Surprisingly good cut flower. I find the growth somewhat stiff and coarse.
'Barcelona' aka 'Francis Dubreuil'. Superb in every way.
'Belindas Dream'. Superb in every way.
'Beloved'. Has it all except fragrance, which unfortunately is a big "except".
'Bishops Castle'. Another superb in every respecter.
'Black Baccara'. Has many virtues, but still hasn't captured my heart.
'Bill Warriner'. Excellent in most respects.
'Bolero'. Another superb-er. The "A"s and "B"s seem to be winning.
'Brass Band'. Ditto. If only it had a great fragrance, it would be the best of the best.
Okay, that's the "A"s and "B"s. I should be done listing them about the time I'm done pruning them. Maybe.

Oh, I'm so excited! This will be a nice resource for others (and you) when it's finished. Thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the suggestion! :)
DeleteHoovb, I think you have the most beautiful roses on the web!!! They are all just amazing! My two favorites from this post are 'Belinda's Dream' and 'Bishop's Castle'. Thanks for posting these beautiful photos, they brought a lot joy to my heart today in the morning!

Thanks Christina, you are very kind! BD and BC are dear to my rose-loving heart.
DeleteThis is fantastic, I will do the same with my roses, I haven't got that many but maybe we could build up a whole rose encyclopaedia?!
ReplyDeleteYou know, it doesn’t really count what the producer or seller says about a rose, it’s when you get it home into your own garden and get to judge it for yourself you really see what it’s like. The colour is also an issue for me, I have bought roses and other plants supposed to be pink or red that have turned out to be purple or salmon or a different shade. And red isn’t just one colour, there are all sorts of red! So I will be specific about the colour too, as what we all see on our computers can be very different to real life, depending on how the monitor is calibrated.
Thanks for starting this, great idea!
Thanks Helene, looking forward to seeing your beautiful roses listed. Still quite jealous of your immaculate garden, though it is extremely motivating!
DeleteIf you are not familiar with http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/plants.php, it is an online rose encyclopedia par excellence.
So very true that there are all sorts of reds. I had two red climbing roses together at one point, with two different reds that looked awful together. Been there...
Wow wow wow for Beloved! Sad there is no fragrance. Lovely pictures!
ReplyDeleteBrass Band. I must find this rose.
ReplyDeleteWow! Wow! and Wow!
