The garden is a mess. Dry wind, very cold, a mess. Boris isn't concerned.
Camellias used to be it for blooms in my January garden.
Then the roses matured...there are still many in bloom today.
'Lady Emma Hamilton'
'Cressida'
It's annoying that 'Abraham Darby' has nearly pristine foliage now, when most of the rest of the roses looks so bedraggled. In April, all the roses will look fabulous, except Abe, who will be drenched in Rust.
'Easy Does It'
'Belindas Dream' has forty buds--or rather, I counted forty buds and then quit.
I thought this Fuschia would be dead of gall-mite by now. Nope:
Camellia about to open. It looks cold. It's probably cold. Last night was the coldest night in Southern California since December of 1990.
Amazing 'Rozanne', still blooming:
I walked around to see if any of the succulents had melted from the cold. The Aloes were fine.
Morocco Daisy, fine:
Even the highly vulnerable Aeoniums, fine. And blooming.

The garden looks so beautiful and alive with colour...Boris doesn't mind the cold, he has that thick fur coat and a ball to chew. Great photos dear Hoover.

I wonder about it, they run outside to get their business done, and then scamper back in the house as quick as they can. Maybe it's the cold on their little toes?
DeleteAny blooms at this time of the year is such a bonus. Boris is looking very lively as well!
ReplyDeleteDoes make up a little for everything outside being such a mess. Happy GBBD!
DeleteHooray for tender succulents making it through the cold. I bet Natasha is as happy as Boris with the temperatures. Finally, weather that makes a thick fur coat seem sensible as well as being a fabulous fashon statement.
ReplyDeleteI am relieved they are still okay. The pups are always happy so I can't tell the difference. Wouldn't it be nice to have that trait? Happy GBBD!
DeleteIs that A. ferox in bloom? And A. capitata? I want want want another capitata
ReplyDeleteYes and yes, and me, too!
DeleteI think I've said this before, but I would love to see a list of all of the roses you grow. Even better would be a photo with each one, but just a text list would be a good first step. It seems like 30 or more.
ReplyDeleteThe post will be called "Just For Alan". :)
DeleteI'm only glad I don't look like Boris / Natasha the other 11 months of the year...but now I'm jealous. Even though cold, you're still warm enough with blooms to thaw my bones some. 'Lady Emma Hamilton' is stunning...still no frost?
ReplyDeleteNo frost yet, keeping fingers crossed. Stay warm!
DeleteLoved the photo of Boris, and you have some lovely plants in flower right now. I especially liked 'Cressida' that's a beautiful rose. My fuchsias have finally stopped flowering and dropped their leaves, but new leaves are already shooting. The cold snap we are having is slowing everything down right now. Happy GBBD!
ReplyDeleteThe cold we've had here has slowed the Aloes down somewhat, and has slowed me down even more. ;)
DeleteMess? I'll take those blooms any day! It is horrible cold here!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
God bless....Brooke

I'm terribly envious of your roses. I'm in SoCal too but all I could manage today was one 'Joseph's Coat' rose - and it wasn't nice enough to make the cut on my Bloom Day post. I've been relying on fresh applications of compost to give them a boost but I think I'm going to have to increase their nutritional input with a bloom booster if I'm ever going to see a good batch of flowers...
ReplyDeleteI like the Aloe blooms, but love Boris. Happy GBBD!
