Another Day Of Winter Clean Up

Another frantic day of winter clean up with a few moments stolen to stop and look at what I'm cleaning up.  Bright sun at start of day:

Not so many roses now; those that remain are stuffed fat with petals.

I'm enjoying the Arctotis a lot.  Planted last spring, the clump has tripled in size.

As the sun sets, Aloe 'Hercules' both mimics and contrasts with Calothamnus villosus.

Now, back to work!

  1. I'm going to have to try to grow Calothamnus villosus in a pot I think. Any idea how that would work, overwintering in the garage? Love the foliage!

    1. It's very pine-like, sure you could not make do with a dwarf pine or fir? Speaking as someone who has never overwintered a plant indoors (even the orchids are fine outside), I have no clue.

  2. A beautiful post again Hoover. What I am supprised about is that overhere we are told to prune the roses about 10 cm above the soil but I think you don't bring them back so strong but your roses lookes lovely.
    Have a wonderful day Hoover.

    1. Thank you Marijke. Here some people prune their roses down to 10 cm every year. They keep them smaller that way. I guess I like them big! :)

    2. I am going to do it your way this year Hoover. I want big shrubs like you have.
Have a wonderful evening and thanks for your comment.

  3. Ahh, 'Jubilee Celebration' is a lovely rose! It is a bit sad to prune a rose with lots of flowers and buds...but it's just one of those things, it has to be done!

    1. Yes, I have had good performance from 'Jubilee Celebration'. I skip over the roses with lots of flowers and buds and come back to them later. There are so many to prune, it takes me weeks. If I cannot wait I make a big bouquet of flowers and buds. At this time of year I have more bouquets in the house than at any other time.
