Ain't the Internet wonderful?  You whine about a plant being too expensive, and an alert commenter tells you where to buy it for a lot less.  Thanks, Dustin!

Get thee to Armstrong's if you are in Southern California.  Today.

In other New Plant news, I got this Xerosicyos danguyi over the weekend.

 How could I not?

Yes, it's a succulent vine.  Cool!

Endemic to Madagascar, it can get quite large.  Xerosicyos means "dry cucumber".  Plants grown from seed will form a caudex, plants grown from cuttings will not.  They are dioecious, meaning there are plants with only boy flowers and plants with only girl flowers, so my plant will be lonely.  Awwww...

  1. It's one of the best feelings when you not only find a plant you've wanted at a local garden center, but then to see it on sale? Great find!

  2. So glad you were able to buy your Leucodendron 'Ebony' thanks to Dusitin and it pays to shop around as we plant people will not be daunted by the expense at one garden centre, well I know I am not, I search and search.
Love the Xerosicyos danguyi too, such a lovely leaf shape and green colour.

    1. Yes, very, very lucky! Should have gotten three--I'm trying very hard to avoid PBG syndrome--but they were still pricey.

  5. Hooray! How cool to finally get a plant after which you've been lusting and at a great price. Your dry cucumber is way cool and a new plant to me!

  7. Congratulations! I saw 'Ebony" at another garden center in Marina Del Rey for $139.99 on Wednesday but that wasn't a great deal. I was at my local Armstrong today and, although I hadn't seen your post and wasn't looking for this Leucadendron, I always cruise the aisles so, either they didn't get it or I was too tardy...

    1. Thanks!

After checking stock and seeing there should be some, the store manager had to search around to find them for me. They were tucked away under the Azaleas, for some reason. Hmmmm.

  8. Ah, the lovely things you can grow in S. Calif.! Great buys, I think I remember admiring a Xerosicyos sometime before. Very cool plant. To bad about the dioecious thing, especially since it may be hard to tell which sex you have.

  10. Thank you for this. My local Armstrong had 2 of these beauties. Still one left...unless I go back again...
