Outside From Inside

Hemerocallis 'Strawberry Candy'

We're having a thunder storm--a rare event here.  Unfortunately just a sprinkling of rain--the storm is mostly thunder.

Best to be indoors during thunder storms.  I'm on the inside looking outside.

Good view of the Trachelospermum flower show from this window:

And from this one:

 There's the Acer:

And the pond:
Aloe 'Hercules' from this window.  It's nice to see plants and just a bit of a neighbor's house, instead of just a neighbor's house:
Roses to admire from this one:
The summer sun beats on this window, but not since the   'Cara Cara' Orange tree grew to shade it:
This is a favorite late summer view when the Lasgerstroemia 'Dynamite's are in bloom:
This is the window to birdbath watch:
This one where to admire the Oak, one of the 'Dynamite's, and the neighbor's slim Cypress.  Bird activity in the Oak is constant:
The highlight here is the smaller of the two Aloe 'Hercules' and the seedling of 'Yellow Bird' Leucospermum:
I went outside (before the thunder began!) and flattened myself against the window to get this scene without the window screen:
This one, too:
Upstairs, another good view of the 'Dynamite's, the neighbor's Cypress, and on the upper right, a bit of a Jacaranda in flower:

It's a privilege to be able to have garden views.   I've worked as best I could to make looking out the windows as lovely as possible.  Still working at it, but it's gotten better over time.

  1. Wonderful views from your windows. Red tiled roof, oranges, Cypress... I'm thinking you are actually tucked in a bed & breakfast somewhere in a small Italian village :-)

  2. Your outside views are great! Were I to take any at the moment, they'd be blemished by windows in serious need of washing.

We picked up 0.07/inch of rain late yesterday afternoon. Admittedly not much but more than I expected! Without any visual sighting of lightning, I continued gardening for about an hour in an effort to finish up a few things but stopped short of taking my usual walk around the neighborhood, which was a good thing as shortly after I headed inside there was a flash followed virtually simultaneously by a boom of thunder. Sometimes I'm too stubborn for my own good...It's gloomy and spitting lightly again this morning.

  3. What lovely views from your windows! You have made yourself a little Eden. It's funny, I think I have a better idea in my mind of your garden looking out your windows than from all the pictures combined. Odd, isn't it? I was on my way home from work when the rain hit, and it rained almost the whole way. It was great!
Unlike where you are though, it just poured. It rained so hard I thought it was hailing, it was that loud. No hail thankfully. And very wet, no little drizzley mist here. And lightning. Great flashes illuminating the sky. Frequently! It was wonderful. No thunder though. I do like a bit of thunder. Now, if we could have those to order. Once a week should do it. Elizabeth

    1. Never ending creation. :) They got a good bit just south of here--the main part missed us. We just got the noise and the flashes. A little more overnight--0.06", small but very welcome!!

      Once a week--okay, it's a deal! :)

  4. Gorgeous, what a good eye - you've done a miraculous job constructing those views! I agree with Chavli, it looks very romantic and Italian.

    1. Italian--never thought of that. The last picture reminds me of Cezanne with the roof, square walls, and italian cypress.

  5. One of my biggest regrets in buying this house is the pathetic window placement. You have to walk into the corner of the back bedrooms to look out into the back garden. Your windows and the views you've created are wonderful!

    1. One thing I like about this house is the windows. I love big windows--just wish the house had deep eaves to shade them so direct sun would not come into the house. It would keep the indoors in summer a lot cooler. Well, can't have everything. Lucky to have a house in the first place! Even luckier to have a garden! :)

    1. Hello Montreal! I have hundreds (if not thousands) of relatives in Quebec, descendants of the original Acadians. Thanks for stopping by and having a look at my garden.
