July Bloom Day

It's been a struggle to blog at all due to Hoover not being well.  Doing the best I can.  It would be easier to post pictures of plants not in bloom because so much is blooming, even some Aloes I have not expected to be flowering in summertime.  The hummingbirds are growing accustomed to the Aloes as well as their old buddies the Fuchsias, Salvias, and Echeverias.

See?  Most everything is still blooming away.

Even some late California poppies, which are usually done by early June.

Even 'Tea Clipper'!

Threatening her with the shovel worked!

The lemon-scented Pelargonium isn't blooming because I pinched it for bushiness, which also removed flowers.

These pink lillies are having a great summer.

Aloe dorotheae and Limonium perezii with Aloe ferox as a green shadow in the background.

The corn is not blooming.  I planted it late.  The wire fencing is so that the coyotes won't step on the small plants.  This small area is a coyote passageway of sorts.
Photobucket

Aloe megalacantha has been blooming off and on for months.

I wish Senecio mandraliscae would not bloom at all.  Yuck!

Aloe ellenbeckii is happy against a grassy backdrop of Dasylirion.

Cotyledon 'Happy Dancing Girl' with Chamelacium on the left and Baccharis behind.

Crassula falcata is going to finally bloom soon.  Right now the flowers look like broccoli.  They will open a brilliant crimson.

Thank goodness this Agave is not blooming!  Do not bloom honey!  Not yet!

A dinner-plate sized Aeonium is not blooming.

Neither is this ultra-rare Arizona cypress subspecies from an isolated mountain in Baja:

Nor are these Yuccas.  I've had some Yuccas for years now and they've never bloomed.
Photobucket

Dahlias on the other hand are highly reliable.  These dark-leafted cultivars are all the rage this year (apparently).

One of my rooted rose cuttings:  first bloom!  Cool!
Photobucket

Clematis have been blooming for months.
Photobucket

Venosa Violacaea was late this year.  No fertilizer.
Photobucket

The Stephanotis vine I moved last October isn't blooming.  It's recovering from the move.  At least it didn't die like the Icee Blue Podocarpus did.
Photobucket

And why is it that the Lobelia grows so well here on the stairway in DG without water?  So much better than the ones I carefully planted in rich, moist soil?  Why is that?

I envy the neighbor's magnificent Tibouchina, peeking over their hedge.  I've killed two of my own and gave up.  The neighbor's secret appears to be daily over watering and an east-facing location.  Now I know.   In front of the hedge, my Salvia cacaliifolia is thriving this year.  I yanked it out two years ago.  You see how effective that was.

I cross my fingers Hoover is feeling better and does not have a miserable night like last night.  Vet appointment tomorrow.

Special thanks to May Dreams Gardens for Bloom Day!
