A California Classic Garden

Let's meet for margaritas by the snowman!

The home was built, I believe, in the 1920's.  It has the classic California red tile style of the times, with arched colonades,

romantic balconies,
Photobucket
and construction details that are rarely seen today.

There are the inevitable Palms,
Photobucket
patios graced with Italian Cypress,
Photobucket
hazy vistas,
Photobucket
California oaks,
Photobucket
and places to relax and perhaps dream.

Because of the size of the property, and the beauty of the site, the landscape style is one of simplicity.
Photobucket
Though much of it has been in place for many years,
Photobucket
it looks undated, and appropriate to the home.

The latest fashion trends and manias are unnecessary.

When you look like Elizabeth Taylor...

  1. What a gorgeous property! You must know who lives there to be up on the porch.

  3. Yes, *well-designed* classics rule!

This is one rich landscape you show, in concentrated areas and in the grand scale. Can't wait until our pomegranates fill back in and have fruit like that. Cypress, common and blah here, but when used well with nearby mountain vistas and the space they are in, delightful.

Bougainvillea - that is my zone envy. Phoenix - 400 miles to the nearest ones that live all year; El Paso - 250 miles to those that come back every summer!

  4. Oh my goodness what a gorgeous property! I agree with you this is a classic California Garden that has stood the test of time and will not become outdated. Very rarely you see an established private garden like this, it is soo... beautiful! Thanks for sharing it on your blog!
