Now why did I do this?  I not only don't need more roses, I don't even particularly want more roses.
I have plenty of roses, hundreds of roses.
I can make a rose bouquet the size of a bathtub--in December.
So why this?

It was on the death-rack at Lowes, of course.  That's why.  I've been--racked!

Looking carefully at the base, I saw it was healthy, unscratched, un-cankered, unspotted, and own-root.
There were two;  I left the blooming one, so it will be bought before it dies of thirst.
It's 'Cinco de Mayo' (Iink), by the way, which has a good reputation.
Child of 'Julia Child', an excellent rose here.

  2. Maybe you should use the verb sacked. I purchased 5 x #1 agastache and 3 x #3 Miscanthus gold bar for a $1 a piece the other day. I worked for Lowes a while and at that time they wouldn't write off less than 50%. Walmart does the same, they would rather throw them away than discount below 50%. go figure.

  3. True, you have your share of roses and many other plants. But, one of those roses could decline or die, and voila - you have a replacement! Assuming it meets the design scheme...

  4. You did a good thing, hoovb, and it didn't cost you much. I'm confident you have gained an asset for your garden. Hundred of roses? Hundreds? And nary a post on them? Tut, tut. You owe your rosey friends some in-depth photo essays on our favorite plant. Agaves and aloes are interesting, but we know your roses are to die for. Please share.

    @greggo, great find for a buck! Wish I could do that.

    @desert, design scheme? Me?

    @sherry, I don't blog about roses as much as I used to--maybe come spring, I'll be more obsessed with them again. Just a lot of stuff going on in this garden...

  7. I ordered 15 packets of seeds online over the weekend...and I have space for about a dozen annuals, so I am definitely not one to cast 'nasturtiums'. Enjoy your beautiful Cinco de Mayo.
