Less dirt, more space:
Some guys came today and took most of my spare dirt. Now that I see the area, it seems a shame to fill it with compost piles. I plan for a 'Reed' or a 'Gwen' Avocado tree where the Brugmansia once grew, there on the right hand side, just past the stairs.
I already don't miss the dirt that is now gone. The guys who lugged it all up the stairs...when they were done, they looked how I felt after lugging a lot of dirt up those same stairs. I got a little more of the slope cleared, being careful not to re-injure my leg. It is still somewhat sore.
The Lillies are already up, looking a little like Sempervivums, a far different plant:
'Comtesse de Segure' is settling into her new home:
The Koi are happy, safely under their netting because it's Heron Season here:
"Hey, you with the food!"
The main activity continues to be roses. I continue to enjoy taking photos of roses I could not capture with my old camera. 'Peter Mayle'. How is 'Mayle' pronnounced? I would love to know.
The pleasure of taking a photo of 'Yves Piaget' in full sunlight far outdoes the quality of the photo, but that's okay. No more white-out on the petals!
The same with 'Geranium Red', an old (1947) floribunda with a powerful old rose fragrance and a decidedly modern color.
The fragrance is first-rate.
'Jadis' has a first rate fragrance as well, but is better suited to cool-summer climates. It toasts so quickly here.
'George Burns' was easy to photograph with the old camera, though the new one makes sun and shadow easy.
It is nice to be able to take a photograph in full sun that isn't all washed out.
A little overcast makes it better, though--new camera or old. No shadows.
My Winter Project wasn't done before Spring arrived, but hey, Spring is early.

Spring is early indeed! Great looking blooms but your Koi especially got my attention. Great to see some of them and they're looking very nice and healthy too! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark and Gaz. The Koi are a lot of fun, and I'm so happy we made the pond deeper--they are much more comfortable now. Winters are not hard for them here as the pond stays above 13C nearly all winter. I still have to work out the UV light problem, but so far, so good!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful roses, especially Geranium Red, I envy you! What is your new camera? Mayle is pronounced the same as "mail", and mine is months away from blooming :(.
ReplyDeleteThanks Masha! It's a Sony A65. Thanks for the pronounce info. Is your spring not as early as ours this year?!?
