'Julia Child', May 2006. Planted January 2006. May 2007. The purple flower is Limonium perezii. April 2008 April 2009 April 2010 April 2011 April 2012 Quite a remarkably consistent rose!
Wow, 'Julia Child' is a remarkably pretty rose in your garden and so floriferous! I love the combination with the Limonium perezii together. Consistency is a good thing in general, but especially when it comes to roses :-)! Thanks for this lovely post. Christina
Looks like maybe dorycnium in the last photo. Much prefer it to the statice. Whatever it is, that's a stunning foil to that amazingly consistent rose. Must be those magical incantations you chant when pruning ;)
@Sheila, thanks. I give them whatever fertilizer I have, bulb fertilizer, citrus, and some years nothing at all. Alfalfa meal seems the most effective.
@Christina, thanks!
@Denise, Maireana sedifolia, which the puppies are ripping apart since it hangs over the wall. The "magical incantations" uttered while pruning generally consist of 4 letter words.. ;)
I bought one 3 years ago, expecting what you have shared with us. 2 years, 4 flowers, adios Julietta. She met the shovel this winter. I believe I had a lemon..is there a lemon law for roses?
@Brindavan, Alfalfa is slow to work, but it's really effective when it does. Good luck with your JC.
@ks, must have been a lemon (with apologies to 'Meyer' lemons world wide)--I have 3 other JCs and two are excellent. The under performer was a 99 cent clearance plant from Home Cheapo...

What a beautiful display! What do you feed your roses?

@Greggo, thanks! JC really is a good rose.
It has been 2 years since I planted my Julia Child, and it is still pretty small. I am going to try the Alfalfa meal and see if works for me.
