When I Visit A Friend's Garden

Photobucket
When I visit a friend's garden, I am so busy looking that I forget to take photographs.  I got just a few photos on this visit, which means it was a very beautiful garden.  Poor Beloved quietly and patiently followed with a jar of water which I rapidly filled with flowers and cuttings, and our friend led the way carrying a bouquet of 'Evelyn'.  What could be better?
An Anigozanthos hybrid against a background of Senecio:

'Maréchal Niel', a gorgeous Noisette, but tough to photograph quickly, because  Le Maréchal is a nodder.

Mahonia, a shrub not often seen around here.  I understand it is rather common in other places, and thought somewhat boring, but I find the blue berries quite arrestingly beautiful.

Lastly, 'Scepter'd Isle', an Austin rose I actually had for a while and gave away.  That was obviously a big mistake...

If the garden had not been so lovely, I might have gotten more pictures.

  1. The contrast between the Anigozanthus and the Senecio is superb. That Mahonia looks like it might be M. x media 'Charity', a prized hybrid, even up here in Mahonia Country.

Sorry if this is a dupe comment: Blogger is being squirrely.

  2. Hi MulchMaid! Thanks for the possible ID on the Mahonia. It's a real beauty. I'm having trouble doing comments at other blogs myself. Maybe it's not just me then?

  3. Lovely photo of the Mahonia berries, a rare sight in our garden. As soon as they ripen, the birds strip the bushes.
