Beloved thought it would be good to mirror the hedge of roses and the underplanting of 'Rozanne' geraniums on the other side of the stepping stones.  Beloved is probably right.

I thought about putting in a block of sweet corn in the empty space for the next two months, to give me time to think.  Then I did my usual walk around the garden.  The lilies are starting to bloom.

The young  'Easy Does It' roses are doing well despite losing a lot of foliage to disease.

'Endless Summer' hydrangea is in full bloom with 'East Friesland' salvia at its base.

I got the old expiring Dodonea out (muddy stump somewhat visible in the foreground) and the new Pittosporum 'Ivory Sheen' (or is it 'Silver Queen'?) planted.

I noted that the 'Wrinkled Blue' Pittosporum has grown about two feet since I planted it back in December.  I'm happy it's happy.

...to contemplate empty ground.  After you've gardened for several years, and crammed your garden full of all sorts of success and failure, what is more luxurious and enticing than empty ground?  The possibilities!

  1. I have the same problem....err possibilities. Except I have a 30" silver maple stump elevated 24". May become a stump sculpture.
