Cercis Update: Victory!

Six Cercis out, two Lagerstoemias (Crepe Myrtles) in.  A cousin of Jesus got the stumps out on Saturday.  He used a pick, not a shovel.  Duh.  Now I know.

Buckets and buckets and bags of roots I grubbed out after the stumps were gone.

Once the new trees grow a bit...something like this?

One tough job finally done.    The koi pond UV unit awaits, gulp.

Taking a moment to recall the fun part of gardening, Aloe x noblis has finally bloomed after years and years.  It's in a horrible hot spot that gets no irrigation, so no wonder it hasn't bloomed before now.  Yet another good effect of this spring's late rains.

I am exhausted.  The puppies are fine.  Boris chews on an antler, Natasha chews on Boris.

  1. I used to feel really horrid about removing trees, but no more as so many of the plants I like to grow require sun, and my neighbors are so close their trees provide plenty of shade..more than I need in fact. Those puppies !

  2. So you have "borrowed" shade. This might be a good thing. Hopefully the neighbor's roots are well behaved. I feel horrid about removing good trees. The feeling about removing the Cerci was...joy!

  3. Perhaps the less said about the origins of the antler, the better? Or is this a common puppy snack of which we cat owners are blissfully unaware? (Will trade antlers for what we here call birdie murders and rodenticides?)

    1. No, antlers naturally shed in winter and collected. No deer harmed, and no odor. Rodenticides would be good. They would eat them, though, and then come and lick me. :(

  4. That wasn't an easy task so well done! The Crepe Myrtles would look great there :)

  5. Nice having one tough job done... although you've been tackling a few tough ones in the past year.

One tip: don't use a pick on the UV unit project. ;-)

  6. Triumph! Gotta put some tool belts on those no-account, layabout puppies and make them pitch in...
Really like seeing more of the low retaining wall and more of the house too.

  7. Picks - the gardener's best friend from So Cal to NM. Glad to see the white fur is still doing well and into playing...maybe they never stop?
