'Gene' is a medium pink. Do you see the white sport?
There exists a 'White Gene Boerner' rose, sold by a Japanese nursery. This is my own version.
I've had another sport in my garden, an orange-and-white version of the normally raspberry pink-and-white 'Gardens Of The World'. And, of course, 'Mary Rose' used to sport to 'Redoute' and 'Winchester Cathedral' all the time--and our 'Redoute' regularly sports to 'Mary Rose' and 'Winchester Cathedral'. I don't have much interest in trying to root the white 'Gene Boerner' stem, but I suppose I should. Now, a white sport of say 'Bishops Castle' or 'Jude The Obscure' would be something valuable...'White Gene Boerner', not. Except to me I suppose it would be a memory of a particular summer day, a signpost on the gardening journey.
Now that is interesting and lovely!
ReplyDeleteI think sports are always exciting:) but you are right, a color sport of Jude would be really great.
