This next photo shows the replanting of the front slope back in 2009. Not promising. The boxwood hedge, barely visible at the top, I dug out in the winter of '11 without regret. The spindly Ceanothus died. I finally managed to root out the Baccharis and Narcissus, which were annoyingly persistant. Variegated Euonymous--gone. The Aloes, Yuccas, Senecio, and Agaves have all grown.
Today..
Most of the same plants, and with most of the temporary filler plants removed. Four 'Bright Star' Yucca instead of one, but everything else is just larger. I pulled out most of the ice plant a couple of months ago.
Looking back and seeing how the garden has changed has proven really enjoyable. Old and new...now, then, evolution.
Old...
New...
What can we destroy next?
