Agave 'Blue Glow' In Bloom

No, not mine, though my largest one looks to be preparing to bloom next spring.  Saw this one at Roger's.  The spike looks a little deformed.  It starts out bare...

I have not seen enough 'Blue Glow's in bloom to tell if this is an oddity unique to this particular plant, or if they are all odd.  Most all 'Blue Glow' are tissue cultured, not grown from seed or offsets--does that affect their ability to bloom?  I saw a 'Blue Glow' at the LA Arboretum earlier this year that seemed to be preparing to push out multiple bloom stems, and I planned to check it out when I went to the Inter-City Cactus/Succulent show in August, but we ended up not going because it was 105F (40 C) that day.

So I dunno, I dunno.  But I will know soon.  I think both our biggest 'Blue Glow' and 'Joe Hoak' will bloom next spring.

One last Agave note, the A. desmetiana bulbils root fairly quickly.  This one developed quite good roots in about two weeks.  (Shade, moist soil.)

Okay, a few more Agave photos.  I don't know which one this is.  What a beauty, eh?

  2. Interesting post, I love seeing these beauties grown outside in their environment. Sadly we can only do them in containers here. Love that baby with its lovely new roots!
