Meanwhile, Back In The Garden...

The Monarchs are on the move again.  I noticed the Chrysalises were changing.

A few caterpillars remain.

The Asclepias are growing new foliage.

Monarchs are not the only insect attracted to the Asclepias.

I tried to get a picture of the first flight.

Then the brand new butterfly stopped to examine an Aloe flower.

Then it flew off, on its journey.  Bon Voyage, little beauty.

  1. Wonderful! It's a miracle and how special to watch this new one test its wings for the first time. I just love your garden! Is that Euphorbia hardy for you?

    1. I was so happy to see their success, and to have been a part of it in a small way.

Euphorbias are almost all hardy here, we rarely go below 40F on the coldest winter nights.

    1. I'm happy both the caterpillars and the Asclepias survived. I haven't seen so many ladybugs since the proliferation of the Mantis in the garden, but they are still around.

  4. Is there anything more inspirational than the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly?

    1. It's pretty amazing. If you described it to someone who knew nothing about insects, would they believe it?
