The Monarchs are on the move again. I noticed the Chrysalises were changing.
A few hours later...
A few caterpillars remain.
The Asclepias are growing new foliage.
Monarchs are not the only insect attracted to the Asclepias.
I kept checking the chrysalises
Finally my timing was right!
I tried to get a picture of the first flight.
Then the brand new butterfly stopped to examine an Aloe flower.
Then it flew off, on its journey. Bon Voyage, little beauty.

Wonderful! It's a miracle and how special to watch this new one test its wings for the first time. I just love your garden! Is that Euphorbia hardy for you?
ReplyDeleteI was so happy to see their success, and to have been a part of it in a small way.
DeleteEuphorbias are almost all hardy here, we rarely go below 40F on the coldest winter nights.
Amazing clicks!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing...
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed them.
DeleteWhat amazing creatures butterflies are. I'm glad to see the Asclepias is still growing. Go, ladybug, go!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy both the caterpillars and the Asclepias survived. I haven't seen so many ladybugs since the proliferation of the Mantis in the garden, but they are still around.
DeleteIs there anything more inspirational than the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly?
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty amazing. If you described it to someone who knew nothing about insects, would they believe it?
DeleteSo beautiful that Monarch butterfly!
ReplyDeleteAnd when it flies through the garden, quite enchanting!
DeleteGreat pictures! It must have been quite an effort :)
ReplyDeleteKeeping the darn caterpillars fed was an effort! The photo was easy in comparison.
DeleteThat last picture is perfect, with the Monarch precision colors on that lovely yellow aloe blossom.
ReplyDeleteLucky snap! :)
Deletenice, Gail!
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous, I have tons of milkweed but have NEVER seen a chrysalis. How great for you!
