Mixed Memes

I thought about doing a "favorite plant of the month", but a particular favorite did not jump out at me.  The new(ish) Calistemon 'Slim' (above) does appear to have flower buds--flowers might have made it the favorite.

Favorite plant not readily apparent, how about favorite new garden addition--the table we picked up off the side of the road, a few weeks ago now, that has become a potting bench.  It's actually fun to repot plants now.  Who would have thought?

But I was out looking for favorites for June.  No, this Platycerium isn't any more favorite than the rest of them this month...though it does look nice with new growth and the spider webs washed off.
Bloom Day post?  Favorite plant meme not working.  Nah, Bloom Day is the 15th.  Wrong day.  Got blooms, though...

Monthly wide shot?  That one's easy!  Well, it would be if I was organized...
In A Vase On Monday?  Oh gosh no.  When will I ever be organized enough to do that?

How about a Foliage Follow Up?  I usually miss that one, even though the garden usually has foliage in it somewhere.  Gosh, lovely color on Aloe capitata...
...and variegation on Aloe noblis.
A Wednesday Vignette?  Haven't gotten to that one, either.  And it's nearly Sunday.  But now since vignettes are mentioned, I like this trio of Agave desmetiana, Agave lophantha 'Quadricolor', and Carex testacea, a trio entirely due to having extras of all these, and wanting them planted somewhere.  Funny how well that worked.
Huh.  Crow feather in the Agave.  Is there a bird meme?
Is there a "This Plant Should Really Be Named..." meme?  I would say Grevillea 'Austraflora Fanfare' should be Grevillea 'Rapunzel', as in Rapunzel Rapunzel let down your hair, that I may climb the golden stair...this particular plant needs to do some growing to be Rapunzel--I bought another to replace the one I killed.  It's a fabulous plant...but...wait, wasn't I talking about memes?
Memes, all mixed up, and likely many I forgot.  This is exactly how I garden--I go out there with focus and intent, but focus and intent all seems to vanish in wonder amidst the green and alive.

  1. Your last paragraph sums us up exactly too, and that's why we're not good at following memes. But we do try...

  2. Wide shot! Wide shot! I do love your wide shots.

  3. Those wide shots (of the blooming agave, in particular) are heaven. HEAVEN. Bodice-ripping, chest-heaving, the whole shebang.

I like the hybrid-y notion of a What's on the Potting Bench Today monthly post, because you can throw in some gear if the planting material isn't up to snuff, and I find most gardeners shelve less-than-stellar arrangements on benches, to wither away in solace and from prying eyes. I'm inordinately excited about that potting bench. The wood looked lovely. I would have suggested a touch of chalk paint, but now that you're using it that advice seems a bit fussy. Is that a crested echeveria?

    1. It's crested Graptoveria 'Fred Ives', I was lucky to find it in my mass of 'Fred's. It's so nice to have an actual potting area, finally!

    2. No kidding? I had to pay special for mine. My two clumps are very apricot-bile at the moment. I envy the blue-ish cast yours has got.

    3. Seeing a crested bit was a delightful surprise. It's in mostly shade there on the patio, so less apricot than the ones in the sun. I love 'Fred'!

  4. I love all those memes on the blogs but I really cannot participate, there are too many, I get mixed up, I forget and I really have a lack of time. So you see, I like how you garden that´s like me, I think I am more chaotic, but who cares, we all love the green and enjoy.

    1. You are exactly right. Your garden is so lovely, I'm sure you are better off with chaos!

  5. A wonderful post dear Hoover and beautiful flowers, I think your garden would cover every meme. I'm pleased you have replaced the Grevillea, it is lovely.

    1. I really liked that Grevillea. I hope this one does okay.

  6. Maybe we could add more days to the week to cover all the memes.

    1. That would be easiest, yes. And rename some days, too. "Wednesday" is too hard to spell. "Sunday", though is garden-appropriate.

  7. Lovely photos all around, regardless of the meme they may or may not fit.

I'm in Vancouver, BC today, and the URL of your blog defaults to pieceofeden.blogspot.ca. The "ca" was odd to see.

  8. There's ALWAYS something exciting going on in your garden. Did that Grevillea come from Village Nursery? It shows the same range of leaf color I saw in 2 of the plants there when I visited. I think I like the leaf color even more than flowers. I also love your Agave desmetiana/Agave lophantha combination - I may have to copy that.

    1. Yes, I saw it on your Village blog post and dashed out to get it. My Village that is closer was out of them. I thought and thought about that leaf color--so familiar--aHAH! it is the same as Nandina!

  9. I resemble your style! Love the leaves on the Grevillea 'Austraflora Fanfare'. Happy to know your potting bench is working well. Happy Gardening : )

    1. The same to you! Let's hope for a long stretch of unseasonably cool summer weather, shall we? This week is not that week, here anyway.

  10. Focus and intent? Some of us borrow them from the memes you mention. You're doing just fine on your own.
