In A Vase On Monday

Another great meme rarely participated in, because I'm just too disorganized.  It worked today because it was incredibly obvious and easy what, on this day, belongs in a vase.  Two stems of Leucadendron, three stems of Craspedia globosa, and a stem of Lagerstroemia 'Dynamite'.  The Leucadendron red and the Lagerstroemia red agree;  yellow is an ideal contrast.  Simple.  I can handle simple.  Complicated...not so good.

    1. Red is my favorite--it is not the color in this garden that works best, but still, my favorite.

  3. Oh my yes! Those reds, that that yellow...

  4. I went red today too! 'Dynamite' really does pack a punch. Do the flowers last long in a vase? I still have dreams of growing a crape myrtle, perhaps as a shrub rather than a tree.

    1. Red is good! No, the flowers are brief in a vase.

Crape Myrtles absolutely can be grown as shrubs, since the flowers appear only on new growth. There are many smaller varieties. My 'Dynamite' are perhaps 8' tall and put on a big show at that size. The key is full sun and heat, heat, heat--something to ponder as you are close to the Pacific. They love heat. Not low water until very, very well established--but since they are not that big, the amount of water required is reasonable.

  5. And yes, popping a few blooms in a vase is invariably far easier than we ever thought it might be, and brings so much pleasure - I am glad it was simple enough for you not to be stressed about it ;) Your blooms are all new to me, but as you say they are clearly meant to be bedfellows. Thanks so much for joining in.

  7. It's beautiful, full of warm color, breathes summer warmth. The white vase is the perfect foil.
