Wednesday Vignette 11/8/2017
This California autumn sunset is Wednesday's Vignette.
I'm out of paint! It's all on the walls (and a little on my shoes). The project won't restart until the next 40% off paint sale (yay!).
In the meantime, back to the garden, which looks awful in November. Though the Aloes are awakening, the roses are ratty, the Salvias scraggly, and Dahlias, done. During clean up and plant time, it's better to admire the sunsets than the garden.
I quickly filled the green bin with clippings then planted Lomandra 'Platinum Beauty', the trendy grass-ish plant this year.
Nice to be back out there, finally!
That Lomandra is definitely trendy! Glad you're keeping up with the Joneses ;)

Congratulations on completing your painting project, for now at least. The sunset is lovely and the weather is perfect for spending time outside. Hopefully, more rain is in the offing - the extended forecasts keep fluctuating.

DeleteWe had a sunrise like that yesterday...sans palm trees. One thing about winter: I'm up in time to appreciate such things.

DeleteYou must be a really good painter if it’s only on the walls and a little on your shoes; my recent painting projects were not quite as high as yours but the paint was all over me - even a little in my hair. Have fun being outdoors in the garden! You deserve it.
ReplyDeleteA trick I learned from my sister, wear cheap cotton gloves while painting. Add to that a cap, old cast-off men's long sleeve shirt, and then the only important drips are on the shoes.

Gardening vs painting. Hmmm, which would I choose?
ReplyDeleteI finally found two Lomandra 'Platinum Beauty'. As you said, they're this year's "it" plant, and landscapers are buying them faster than they can be grown.
I know what I would choose. Did save a lot of money DIY. Yes, "it" plants. Remember Digiplexis? The hype on that one!
DeleteYou have taken on quite a painting task. I usually do all of the painting in my home too, but I don't have such tall ceiling! I am impressed.
ReplyDeleteActually I like this time of year in the garden although there really isn't a lot blooming what is there with the cooler weather looks good...especially the succulents and it is kind of fun after pruning to see my hardscape again.

There was a lovely essay in the New Yorker this week about the Beauty Of Autumnal Rot, but here we get more along the lines of dry and crunchy, not the same thing at all.
DeleteHi HB, loved the photo of the sunset. Interesting that Lomandras have become trendy in California. They are native over here, and seem to be indestructible no matter what the weather - (so far anyway, not superstitious, but crossed fingers just in case).

DeleteLomandras have been tested here the past few years and found successful; the past couple of years they've been slowly filtering into retail availability--all male clonal selections so they do not reseed. They are said to be pretty tough here, so we'll see. There's a fairly sincere and widespread effort to avoid introducing any plants that might prove invasive, which is a good idea.
