Non Garden Project Part Four

One (above)...
...two, three, four, five (below)...
Six (in the ceiling).  It opens, too.
There are six windows in the bathroom.  They all open wide, and are open wide much of the time.  We like fresh air.

So why do you suppose we need a electric ventilation fan, in a room so plentifully supplied with...ventilation?  The building inspector said we must add one.  Delay, extra cost, new vent hole in the roof, or in the wall, run electricity, etc, etc.  Blankty-blank building code.  Grrr!  Eye roll. Not that I am anti-building code or anti inspections;  not at all.  Just:  the room is already exceptionally well ventilated.

Meanwhile, the arch inside the shower is done.
The arch at the entrance to the shower is done.
Shampoo bottle/soap niche built, somewhat low, off to the side, not visible when you walk into and look around the room.  Who wants a collection of slightly soapy plastic bottles as a featured decoration right at eye-level?

There will be a shelf in the middle, creating two sections.
Sink re-plumbed.
 Other sink re-plumbed
 New shower drain
 Shower valves replumbed
That brings us to the end of last Thursday.

Friday, waterproofing the shower floor.  Smelly!  Rest assured, all six windows were opened wide.
 Tile supplies arrive.
Lots of tile supplies.
Contractor talks to building department;  yes, six windows are sufficient ventilation in the room.  Hooray!  No delay.   Just a small bump in Remodel Road.  Onward.

  1. It's great you got a positive ruling on the electric fan. Our pre-reno activities are proceeding at a snail's pace, at least on the professionals' end. On our side, my indefatigable husband continues his work on components of what will be our temporary kitchen (for 4-6 months!), with the assistance of his less enthusiastic spouse.

    1. Snails pace...then all of a sudden there's a bunch of guys making a lot of noise and a lot of dust in your house.

We are just about exactly halfway done here. They are preparing to tile.

Bravo to you and your amazing husband, and best wishes for success!

  2. It is getting exciting seeing the plumbing in, arched doorway etc...wishing you more good luck on getting it finished. Love all of those windows! Your area must not have all the bugs we have in our area. We couldn't open windows without screens during warmer months. Our house would be full of mosquitoes and every other flying bug around.

    1. Thank you Lisa, luck is a good thing where remodeling is concerned. We do have window screens; the crew took them off, perhaps so they would not get damaged. When they start doing the tile cutting they might be passing them through the windows. We don't have a lot of bugs here compared to areas that get more rain, but there are a few, though hardly any at all in late fall and winter.
