Finally, a shower floor! That green square is a temporary cover for the drain. This past week there wasn't a lot done. Because of the rain, the tile guys could not work much.
There's the edge going around the shower entrance...
...and around the shower window.
Since no one was around most of the week, I tried a 150% formula of SW Aesthetic White paint (the color on the living room/dining room/entry walls) here. Hmmm...maybe not.
It's lighter than the old color, here in the "before" picture:
Friday, the rain ceased and the non-floor horizontal surfaces were installed.
Niche shelves, the top of the shower bench, the shower "dam"...
The vanity counter and backsplashes. The under-counter lavatories (sinks) were installed, too.
The bathtub deck
Self portrait with dust and chaos
The contractor's man-on-site-at-all-times was not pleased with the archway tile. "It's not up to our standards," said he. The tile guys will redo it.
This coming week will be "a mad dash to the finish line,", as the contractor's man-on-site-at-all-times described it. The new plumbing fixtures will be installed, and the original bathtub will be reinstalled. Perfectly good bathtub, didn't want to send it to the landfill. Electrical outlets installed. The bathroom and closet floors to be tiled. New closet cabinets installed, existing cabinet shells stained, and refinished original doors/drawers reinstalled. Almost there...
This is a garden blog, after all, so time to note the Rhodanthemum (syn. Pyrethropsis) hosmariense have been late to bloom this year, because we've been lucky enough to get some winter weather more in line with historic average temperatures and rainfall.
The Rhodanthemums are just starting their bloom, which can stretch well into May some years. Tough and lovely little plant; a favorite.
Such exquisite details to the flowers.
Details that are all just right.
Just right details as, hopefully, the bathroom will also have.

You’ll be finished long before us (not that that’s surprising) and it’s going to be fab! I’m relieved to see the shower dam. One of the things that’s worrying us is the extent water will travel away from the shower, especially given that it will be totally open to the rest of the bathroom.
ReplyDeleteSeeing as your home is a historic gem, you have to be a little more careful. I can't remember if you waterproofed your entire bathroom floor or not? Tile and grout are not waterproof. I admire your tolerance of remodeling, because serious remodeling fatigue has set in here.
DeleteThe shower dam is fabricated out of the counter material, so no grout lines to have to clean, yay! I went for easy maintenance in every choice.
What elegant buds they are!
ReplyDeleteElegant foliage, elegant flowers, long-lived, doesn't reseed, very low water, takes heat...I love that plant!
DeleteI love the buds of the Pyrethropsis as much (or maybe more) than the blooms. I'm glad to hear that the bathroom project is moving forward after the rain break. More rain is in the long-term forecast for the first of February - I hope you're done by then!
ReplyDeleteMore rain forecast for this winter?!?! You made my day!!!!! Thank you!!!
Delete(stand by--interval of joy, hope, relief)
Hopefully will be done by then--at least the tile guys should be--just a few details will be left (the bathroom door is being custom made because they could not find a match otherwise).
I thought about it and decided Rhodanthemum/Pyrethropsis is one of my favorite plants. Undemanding, long lived, modest water requirements, silver foliage, heat tolerant...
The bathroom is coming together nicely! I hope next week goes as fast as the company is promising... What paint color are you going to try next?
ReplyDeleteThis weekend's bathroom paint color was Behr Ice Sculpture, which we have in the guest room (where we are camped out for the duration of the remodel). Dear Husband thinks this is the one. I think I agree.
DeleteBeautiful photos of the buds and flowers of the Rodanthemums. I wish you good luch with
ReplyDeletethe work in progress in your house.
Thank you Janneke! So far we have been very fortunate, hopefully it continues to completion.
DeleteYour bathroom redo is rather frightening to me as we are thinking about remodeling our bathroom. Of course our bath room is about as large as you bubble tub. ha... It won't take so long but being in a mess is not a happy state of affairs. You are lucky to have beautiful flowers to look at to take your mind off the mess. Here my garden is covered with snow. It looks rather pristine in a wintery sort of way.
ReplyDeleteIt's been okay. Bearable. It motivated me to clean out some closets, clean out a lot of old stuff in the garage, so there has been a lot of positives. I miss that huge bathroom. The bathroom we are using now is, yes, about the size of the bubble tub.
DeleteYes, enjoying the winter flowers. Snow has its own beauty though!
I love your Rhodanthemums ! I especially like that the blooms persist for so long. My kind of plant, except that it won't survive my winters ( I looked it up.) Bummer! I also can feel your excitement about your bathroom. It is looking great. I like the white !
ReplyDeleteThanks! Just remember you can grow many wonderful plants that won't survive here, so we're even. :^)
DeleteExciting that you're in the home stretch with the bathroom project. Sweet blooms too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Outlaw!
DeleteYour patience for the remodel is admirable. That sweet daisy whose name changes I can't keep up with has never been impressive here. It helps to know that its best season is now up to the hot weather.
ReplyDeleteIt's been interesting seeing what it involved in building this and that. That has helped.
DeleteRhodanthemum does want full full full sun...
