Arm Liberation Day

Hippeastrum papilio

The first (of two) Hippeastrum papilio flowers opened Thursday, and it rained an inch (25 mm), and they took the cast off.  I'm even two-handedly touch-typing this, though it hurts.  Must endure some pain to get back the range of motion.
Not nearly as pretty as H. papilio:
A brace now, instead of a cast.  I can take the brace off for relief, put it on for protection:
Hmm...

No, not that kind.

Arm not all better yet.  Lots of wrist exercises ahead.  In the mean time, wazzup in the garden besides wonderful rain?
Agave salmiana variegated with Verbena 'De la Mina':
The rain made everything fresh and happy again.  March miracle.

Crape Myrtles are already waking up
 Happy Salvia
 Leucospermum grown from seed.
There's a nice angle for a front slope photo.  Includes the oak, 'Yellow Bird' Leucospermum, 'Cloudbank Ginny' Leucadendron, Grevillea 'Moonlight' Grevillea
 Succulents by the mail box
 Aloe 'Vera' flower
Fresh spring rose foliage is the prettiest foliage imaginable.  The ugliest foliage imaginable is rose foliage the rest of the year.
A little more work:  This "Tell The Truth Tuesday" area isn't looking much better.  Rather than replacing the failed Grevillea with a rose, I used a 'Blue Glow' Agave.  Because the previous two or three or four roses planted there were all unsuccessful.  (Definition of insanity...) Also enlarged the space a bit to add a second Gaura.  It's the tiny spot of green in the mulch on the right.  Maybe that will help.

  1. Congratulations on Arm Liberation! And your garden is looking fantastic...

  2. Yeah so glad there is good news somewhere. Garden looks great. Tip about roses: they don't like to be planted in the same place as a previous one. Might explain why you were never successful with others. We had a good laugh over your Wonderwoman analogy.

    1. I think the rose problem was the extreme heat in that spot, as I switched out at least a couple cubic feet of soil.

Is there a Wonderless Woman superhero? I could play that part!

  3. It's nice to get positive news for a change. Your garden looks beautiful! The rain has been wonderful! (Even if somewhat less has fallen here than other areas.) No cast is fantastic! Have a spectacularly sprinkle-y weekend!

  5. So good to hear you are back in action even if the action is still a bit edgy. That picture of the agave and verbena is such a pretty combo. It looks so fresh and colorful. I am all about that color this time of year. I also love that ground cover that is growing between your stones in that last picture. What is that? I have tried to get that look before and have failed miserably.

    1. I tried with several different Thymes to get that effect between pavers, and failed miserably each time. The success plant is Dymondia margaretae, which is yet another of the wonderful plants from the Western Cape of South Africa, unfortunately not cold hardy nor a fan of clay soil.

    2. I figured it wouldn't grow here. Too much cold and clay. I have tried all sorts of Thymes too. One of these days I will find something that works in my garden.
