IAVOM, Because Dahlias

Dahlia 'Catching Fire' with Maireana sedifolia foliage in a grey hand made vase

IAVOM means "In A Vase On Monday", a garden blog meme originated and hosted by Cathy of RamblingInTheGarden.

Dahlia 'Duet' with Callistemon foliage and three dried leaves of Banksia prionotes:

Dahlia 'Holland Festival' and 'Avignon' with the foliage of Grevillea 'Peaches and Cream' and Leucadendron 'Reverse Polarity'

I rarely participate due to a chronic inability to be sufficiently organized.  Today, despite our long miserable heat wave, the Dahlias were so lovely, they deserved their moment.

  1. Your dahlias look fantastic, HB! I'm glad you took some time to put a few vases together to share them. Once again, I love 'Catching Fire' and will look for that next year. Mid-80s here today but the humidity is still running high, making it feel more uncomfortable than it should at that level.

    1. Thanks. It's good to practice. They are getting a little better.

I think 'Catching Fire' is my favorite Dahlia this year, though 'Cafe Au Lait' is really good also. The white on 'Catching Fire' looks hand-painted with dry brush, like a Gazania.

      Yucky humid here too. :(

  2. I really like how you have chosen to feature a number of dahlias in separate and minimalist vases - it works so well. I do put individual casuality blooms into a little vase on their own, but you have made a feature of yours by adding foliage, whiich would be worth doing even for my casualities! Hope your heatwave recedes soon, especially if you have high humidity too. What a shame about your spam - WordPress tends to be really good about filtering out spam of all sorts, but I do check it periodically to make sure no genuine comments have ended up there

    1. I think the foliage with the single flower is a good idea. If nothing else it holds the flower up, but foliage is interesting, too.

Blogger used to filter spammers out better. They did a major update to the software to make it phone-friendly (I guess) and it has some bugs.

Thanks again Cathy for the excellent meme.

  3. Oh yes, your dahlias are gorgeous. I love the first two vases in their simplicity. They have so much character with what you added to the dahlias. Happy IAVOM.

  5. Oh your dahlias are all beauties and you have found perfect companions for them. Thanks for sharing them with us. I share that inability to be organised.

  6. Stunning dahlias! Hoovb do you dig them up and replant them every year? I love the mass planting effect!

    1. Thanks! No, I don't dig them up. I did that once and they dried up and died. They come back about 95% of the time left in the ground. Maybe 99%.
