That was Monday.
Sunday afternoon:
Tuesday morning--what the winds did on Monday:
Well, that will be easier to trim, when it is safe to go outdoors again. As soon as the winds died, it got really smokey. Stuck inside, yet again. In a few days, when the smoke clears, it will be 90F again. 2020 sucks!
Oh my gosh! That was defoliated from the winds? By coincidence we had a smaller 2 alarm bush fire on Monday - across the local open space. CA is tinder dry at the moment. If we all just plan outdoor T-Day dinners the weather gods are sure to deliver rain.
ReplyDeleteYes, from the winds. They were really strong, 88mph up the canyon from us. I'm surprised any foliage is still on.
DeleteIf an outdoors T-Day dinner is needed for rain, I'll be happy to start cooking!
That fire looks awfully close for comfort, HB! Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteWe are okay. The firefighters are awesome. Two were severely injured and are in everyone's thoughts now.
Delete2020. The Year That Was. You wonder what more can happen. I am fearful that the election results might not favor Gentle Joe.
ReplyDeleteYoung voters are voting in massive numbers. That gives us hope. Sure need it now.
DeleteThose flames are terrifyingly close to your home. So glad they missed you. It definitely has been a doozy of a year. Hopefully it can only improve, right?
ReplyDeleteHope matters.
DeleteWe went through this last October. I am glad to see you are safe and that your garden is as well, thank you for keeping us updated.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It has been so much worse up north. We're fortunate here so far.
DeleteYikes! Scary stuff. Hang in there. It has to get better - doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteI do hope so!
DeleteAfter reading your post, I admire the positive title of your post. So sorry. I know from what we experienced earlier this fall how awful living in that smoke can be. Hang in there - it could be so much worse. Hopefully you'll get some rain soon to help control the fires. Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anna. The smoke has almost all cleared, and the Silverado fire is more than 60% contained. I have a smoke-cough again, but it is getting better, too. We were very lucky!
DeleteRain, I wish!
Those WINDS!!! I hope you get some rain soon to cool and calm your area. That poor tree.
ReplyDeleteThey were really strong. It was pretty scary. A big pine tree went down around the corner and blocked the road, but no one injured. The county came and cleared the road.
DeleteThe Iochroma is all cut back now. It should sprout new growth pretty rapidly.
What a fright....such a danger. Wish we could send some of the rain your way.
ReplyDeleteWould be happy to take any of your extra rain. Have plenty of warm sunshine to spare.
DeleteWouldn't it be great if we could do that?
That's crazy. When the heat and drought and fire aren't enough, the wind picks up to make it all worse. I hope things settle down and that cough can get a chance to heal.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Just overwhelmed these days.
DeleteThat is really scary to see HB ... I can't even imagine how you must feel, because I have never been in such a position .. I am so sorry . I really hope things will be much better for you in 2021 .. and that means a definite change in leadership .. I wish you the best possible outcome and a total change in the direction of so many aspects in your country .. climate change and the virus can't be any clearer, science deniers are a real head scratcher for me .. I can't understand them.
ReplyDeleteI hope there is rain in your forecast and things calm down !
Thank you for your kind word and apologies for our descent into darkness. I'm utterly baffled as to why people can think a liar will not lie to them. The agony continues.
